Unless it was a single shot or double barrel, then I would recommend you get basically the same gun, but with a shorter barrel. I'd prefer pump, but if you used to shoot a semiauto, go with that.
Note- don't be totally fixated on getting 00 Buckshot; measure your "home defense" needs. Some homes don't have 10 yds of open space before you hit a wall. If you're up close and personal (3-5 yds), turkey loads will leave a fist-sized hole in a person.
If you really want to get creative, get a Mossberg Shockwave, get a good brace that lets you shoulder it, buy an Opsol insert to allow for using 2" minishells, and get some Mini Buckshot or slugs.
I have an Opsol insert, and with it in place, I have flawless feed and function with the minishells. I've tried without it, and it doesn't feed (nor do my other shotguns). The minishells let you get 8 shells loaded, with a (relatively) reduced load that still works fine for defense, and the recoil is manageable. You're just not going to bag a deer at 100 yds with it (I don't think).
If you need more than that, you're in more trouble than we can recommend.

You actually have this backwards. Shotgun is better inside due to not penetrating through walls and it’s hard to hit a moving target inside with a pistol. Especially if it’s nighttime. There is really no advantage of a pistol over a shotgun or rifle other than its easy to conceal and carry in public
if the rioters are crowding around your house and your only option is to take as many as possible with you (unless they get scared off), then an AR/AK is your best choice.
You got a couple dudes trying to kick in your door and you're aware of it, shotgun.
Woke from a dead sleep by hearing someone strange at your bedroom door, pistol at bedside. And I'm leery of biometric locks for that, btw... I want my bedside option as fast as possible and no risk of a bad scan. We use fingerprint scanners at work for meds, and once in a while it doesn't read. Translate that to a survival device, and once is too many times for me.

Agree with this. I’ve got a 20ga I keep loaded with #3 buck. In a scenario where someone is entering my home, the only paths they would likely use don’t pose an over-penetration risk into other rooms.
Had to use it on a snake last week. Let’s just say it works.
I personally like this one, too. Two shots, but no chance at short-stroking and pretty easy to reload quick. Easy take-down and very reliable, too. If you need more than a couple shots with it, you’re screwed anyway.
