Hehehe, I have Cream of Wheat in the box, Malt-O-meal in the box, and Quaker Oats in the round cardboard can all 3. I keep the boxes inside a large ziploc each to help keep them fresh and any critters out. I use the oatmeal in cookies too.

Like to alternate in Winter, use butter, sugar and dash of milk (whole) in them.

It was horrifyingly unappetizing in smell, texture and taste.

So, there's all of that.

What does this have to do with the last 25 years? Jyst because it works when you don't have any other options doesn't make it near optimal
I see your point. I just think that the food that represents such importance to humanity, that goes back to the dawn of agriculture, that was simple and even portable, and kept babies, children and adults from starvation.. I just hope it doesn't go away because of convenience and that you can now find leaner proteins and gluten free option now.

No one is arguing it is "optimal"

When I make oatmeal, I'll put in a quarter cup of cream of wheat with it. Excellent

Growing up we had grits or cream of wheat..I rathered the grits but was told to just eat the cream of wheat. My mom told us that maybe she put too much pepper in the grits one time..I told her that is the first time I have seen pepper with legs..I was told to just eat it..it's all protein..

I went to the grocery store and could only find a little 'instant pack'.

Did you go to a CVS? Normal grocery stores still have it.

I always went sweet with it. Used to eat it growing up with my pawpaw. Sugar and milk til it's perfect.

If you can honestly characterize a well-prepared bowl of CoW as "horrifyingly unappetizing in smell, texture and taste" then I would guess you think chicken fingers + macaroni and cheese is culinarily magnificent. And that corn is a vegetable.

Honestly surprised we made it deep into pg 2 without any jokes about creaming OP’s mom. Is the OT slacking or growing up?

I'd rather just do it than joke about it.

Just ordered me a box of MaltoMeal. Loved that stuff growing up but learned you have to add milk before it sits and starts to cool. Otherwise it turns into hard rubber.

Mix a little milk and butter and a tad of sugar or honey.

True. But this is Cad. You could do it in his smart home on an amazon box and have the lights and music synced up to your thrusting.

That's what dad always said. He grew up on it and hated it and refused to have it in the house when I was growing up.

Depends on the chicken fingers, of course, but certainly could be.

Meh. Corn catches too much crap. Corn can be fantastic.

I was being tongue-in-cheek with my assessment. I was probably 6 or 7 the first (and only) time I tried it. Just as with my own kids (and now grandkids), the young palette is typically underdeveloped.

I eat all kinds of stuff now at which I would have balked as a kid. Eggs, oats, grits, Chinese food, sushi, etc.

But, pre-packaged breakfast cereals? I was never a big fan of anything except Lucky Charms and Fruit Loops. I've eaten neither (or any other) on a regular basis since I became an adult.
