You should call him and just say "Hi". You don't have to bare your soul and hope for a catharsis. Just say "Hi".

Dad and I always got along, better since I got married, until his death.

Mom, however, still has differing opinions...

My dad is my best friend and has been for 15+ years. I love my mom but I'm not really close to her. They got divorced when I was a kid.

Well, it was pretty good before they both passed away. Better with my father than my mother.

Mom is my best friend. Dad is like an advisor. I’m lucky.

My dad is top of my drunk dial list (it's safer that way). Spends his winters here to hang out with the kids.

Mom is slipping into dementia but we talk every other day and I visit more regularly.

Both very important to me.

Mine is better and deeper than before I was old enough to realize that they'll love me no matter what. And they really mean that. They are some old school, uber religious Catholics, and I used to fear their retribution and hide things from them. Now that I'm grown and have a family of my own, I have a much greater sense of respect for what they did to give me the opportunities I had growing up. And no matter what I've gone to them with over the years, they've only ever expressed love and support. I'm lucky.

Me and my dad decided we needed to check each other's knuckles once. I was maybe 18, 6'3 205, pops was 6'4" 230.

I knocked him on the ground first and pulled back to punch him in the face and realized I couldn't hit the man that raised me.

I got off of him and cried like a little bitch. He was a wonderful father and it was at that time that I realized I was a punk arse kid and that he deserved better.

My dad has been a great friend to me over the years. I was as close to my mom, but I’d tel her anything. Unfortunately, she died a few years ago when I was 25.

It’s Great, I’m at the beach with them now with my wife and kids. Just finished up a great meal and hanging on the back porch now.

It's a lot better now that we don't live under the same roof.

Neither does my wife, but I still have both of mine. Kinda makes me feel guilty sometimes but also makes me realize I can’t take them for granted and stay in contact with them regularly.

Sorry to hear that HC.

My kid got to know one of her great grandparents until she was 10. He was a WWII vet too and I had him try to tell her some of the stories he told me.
