What is your opinion of conspiracy theorists?

There’s currently a long thread on the poli board that people are totally wrapped up into like As The Plains Burn. They’re running around saying “stay diligent” and calling each other “patriots”.
I just have to shake my head.
How do people let themselves get so wrapped up into what’s clearly bullshite?

Are there special interests trying to keep their interests special by taking extreme measures that could possibly include starting wars and planning to cull the population? Most definitely. That's pretty much most of human history. Are they doing so with jet engine exhaust or fake alien encounters or other crazy conspiracy ideas, that's a little less likely.

Conspiracy theories are on a spectrum of believability. Those folks tend to go overboard with it, but I think dismissing all conspiracies is just as dumb as looking for a conspiracy under every rock.
