You have to be specific, loony.

Damn I remember a couple years ago when closed minded folks thought the idea of the CIA spying on eveyone and hired Trolls used to be crazy tinfoil conspiracies.

Well most of those guys have convinced themselves all the traditional news outlets are fake news while patriots like Alex Jones are telling the truth. Anyone with a blog can say anything they want and they will latch on like it's the gospel. As long as it doesn't come from NBC.

We’re all a little of both. OP is paranoid the Deep State thread might have some truths to it. Naive to think it’s all insane, and “feels bad” for the posters.

Most conspiracy theorists aren't nuts, they just don't trust their government. And why should they? From JFK's assassination to Vietnam to Iran-Contra to the Clinton scandals to Iraq to Wikileaks to the Snowden NSA leaks, what has our government done to engender trust amongst its citizens? We live in a time where our government is becoming more secretive and less transparent about domestic surveillance and our involvement in foreign conflicts. This stuff fuels the flames. If we had an honest government, the majority of conspiracy theorists wouldn't exist.

I'm all about Occam's razor, and most conspiracy theories require you to ignore that theory.

I don’t care what’s true or not in that thread. I’m just amused at people hanging onto some random guy’s word from 4chan when 4chan loves to troll.

Useful idiots for someone peddling bullshite.

Like our current president who is conspiracy theory loon himself.

I believe it is mostly lower IQ and or very insecure people who are more susceptible to conspiracy theories, again like our current president.

I guess it's better to believe there's some evil all powerful hand at play than the seemingly random uncontrollable tragedy that sometimes happens.

Occam's Razor is dependent upon two theories that are equally supported by evidence. So to give you a hypothetical: There is a debate to go to war in Iraq. The first side says there are WMD's and terrorists there. That same side says Muslims hate us for our freedom. Let's assume that the first side has hordes of intelligence validating their hypothesis. The second side says the war is about oil and making our leaders and their friends rich. The first side labels the second side "conspiracy theorists".

My point is, in this historical application, how does Occam's Razor account for the first side's evidence being completely manufactured? Occam's Razor doesn't take into account the desire by those in power to manipulate and manufacture evidence to support or oppose a specific policy or action.

They ask themselves how people allow themselves to be led like sheep, blind through life, never questioning anything.

The truth, as usual, is probably somewhere in the middle. Less crazy stuff than they think, and far more than you think.

If me being naive means not blindly following random posters on 4chan then yes, call me naive.

This is a question I have asked myself for years. Seriously. I am reading a book about brainwashing right now, just because I am fascinated with the fact that there are people who, in general, seem to relatively smart, common sense people, will get caught up in thinking some off the wall shite, but it could be some type of life experience, something that parallels a belief they have, etc that will cause them to think irrational about something.

All of these were "conspiracy theories" before they were conspiratorial facts...

Here is an exellent timeline of all the bullshite our goverment has done. Most, if not all of this, can be verified by laying eyes on the governments own documents that they themselves released. DUH.

Oh, and, the Manhattan Project. Literally thousands of people worked on it all throughout the country and an entire city was built for it and other than a few isolated reports that never made front page news(and were likely called "conspiracy theorists, wearers of tinfoil hats, etc") none was the wiser.

Again I’m not suggesting conspiracy theories haven’t been proven true, what I’m saying is that just because some guy on 4chan says John Legend is part of some program doesn’t make it true and some of the blind followers over there will believe anything some guy with the screename of Goatfricker posts.

Occam's razor isn't flawless, and I said it accounts for most conspiracy theories, but not all.

I tend to think many government conspiracies are better classified as opportunists. I think 9/11 was a legitimate terrorist attack, leading to the war in Afghanistan. The war in Iraq was an opportunity.

Take the Vegas shooting - what is the endgame there? People will fuss about gun control for a week and then everyone moves on to the next thing. Sandy Hook too.

Brainwashing isn't limited to conspiracy theorists. The mainstream American press, also known as the mouthpiece for the American political establishment, is as guilty of brainwashing as any conspiratorial news medium.

Listen to Noam Chomsky's lectures about the prism of American political discourse and the media's role in manufacturing and manipulating narratives to achieve maximum public support for specific policies. While I hate many of his political views, his takes on media self-censorship and collusion with nefarious elements of our own government are eye opening.

But of course. Thats not even an argument.

In everything, there are people who take it to an extreme.

Me personally? Im a skeptic. Especially when it comes to governments. They have a terrible track record. The greatest damages done to humanity have always come at the hands of governments. The very nature of the institution propels societies sociopaths through it hierarchies.
