The politics and events leading up to, and then WWI breaking out is probably my favorite. All the small things that led to all of the eventual armed conflicts and escalation of war in the 20th century. It's crazy to think how some of those small events eventually caused the Holocaust, nuclear weapons, the Cold War, and even the current state of the Middle East.

The 80's
Pre-80's I'm a pirate, smashing and plundering.

Same. I’ve always said if I could go back and experience a historical event it would be fighting in the European theater during WW2. Mostly because I want to know if I could hack it. Especially D Day.
The men who came back built a hell of a country.

Easily the Renaissance which gave us the age of the polymath: Leonardo de Vinci, Shakespeare, Galileo, Columbus and Michelangelo.
The era where although limited to a certain class knowledge and education for their own sake was recognized. While we had the democratization of knowledge bolstered by public libraries the internet has truly brought knowledge to anyone that seeks it. Born from the Renaissance when knowledge was appreciated not just for pecuniary gain.
The second is the Industrial Revolution, so much good and so much bad packed into a small time period. Lately, I have been fleshing out the "bad" of Henry Ford to give context to the good that is traditionally taught.

The pron era. Just the ability to view any kind of porn and beat my dick like it owes me money with no mercy. That period baw.
As to the actual subject of the thread, I consider the period between the American Civil War and the start of WWI to the the apex of Western Civilization.

I think it would be cool to have a history board. The Symposium as others have coined it. I'm in favor of that.
Edit: to answer the question, it would be the mid 19th century...

WW2 with the old west being a close second.
All the industry and whatnot to winning the war was crazy.
We toured several different locations around grace last summer with Normandy being at the top of my list, Pointe du Hoc, Sainta-Mere-Eglise.
One of the cooler things was the man made Mulberry Harbour at Arromanches.

Napoleonic Wars.
ETA: Can't wait for the Napoleon film in November. I love Phoenix in the role but would prefer him 20 years younger.

-The Civil War
-The American West circa 1840s-1870s (cowboys and the rise and fall of the Great Plains Indian tribes)
-WWI/WWII (including a few years post WWII when the ratlines lead Nazis out of Europe and the subsequent hunts for those fugitives)

Overall I gravitate to European medieval history. I also enjoy biblical history, ancient Middle East, Greece, Rome. Renaissance and early modern is also tight.

I’ve always been a Civil War and WWII buff, but I’d like to know more about the pre-Revolutionary era (French & Indian Wars) and the Korean War, both somewhat forgotten periods in our history.
