I work as a recruiter for a business, I call people to set up interviews.
I usually have 6 to 8 people set up for any given day that we hold these interviews. Most of these people are currently unemployed but some are currently working. I would say most of them seem excited about the interviews when we set them up.
But come interview day, only 1 or 2 show up. One may cancel but the rest will completely ghost me. No answers to text or phone calls.
Is it too much to ask someone to be professional and let me know that they will not be making their schedule interview?

Why do you think they are unemployed?

It's because people are inconsiderate nowadays. Consideration of other people and other peoples' time has gone by the wayside.

From what I have been told that in order to keep receiving unemployment benefits a person must make applications for so many jobs per month.
They just have to apply, ....

And this could be just false info.

They probably got an extension on their basement lease from blue-haired momma.

I was gonna show up to the interview but when I woke up this morning it seemed like a whole thing. Ask me again when my rent is due.

The silver lining is that these people do a great job of making me feel like I have my shite together

We have this problem too. These aren’t entry level people either. These are physical , speech, and occupational therapists who went through 6-7 years of school.

Just shoot a text or something as opposed to completely ghosting. It’s not ultra professional but at least we can then move on interview wise.

Are you a recruiter for a specific recruiting service company or for the business that actually hires your recruits?

I’ve never actually been a recruiter as a career but I had a job 5-6 years back where I ran a large transportation trucking terminal for a small company. We had 1 “recruiter” who just posted jobs for the company and we did everything else locally.

Someone from corporate posted the job we needed and everything funneled through myself and my local team. It would go like this:

100 people apply
60 are qualified so call all 60.
Through people not answering or not like the job after I gave them the non corporate BS, it got down to 20.
Half didn’t pass background, drug screen. Now down to 10.
5-6 find other jobs before the final stages.

Usually left with 3-4 at the very end out of 100 people if I was lucky.

It is just a small straw in the Haybale of our declining society. People just do not feel responsible for anything these days and in general, being responsible is not a high priority.

It really is amazing how much our attitudes have changed and not for the good.

Recruiters ghost people all the time. Don't feel sorry for you.

Once the interview is scheduled they can tell unemployment they tried but didn't get the job.

Also true in dating. Nobody takes accountability for anything.
