Then later Mommy explains "it's because Daddy is an a-hole."
Book it.

Maybe it's for the best. Not only will she deny her child the same excitement that all his classmates are experiencing while causing him to be a social outcast (you have Pablo the penguin? LOL that's stupid!) but she's also gonna teach him some fricked up geography lessons.

Might wanna reconsider that assumption. I don't think there's enough testosterone in that relationship to produce a make heir.

"Mommy, how does a penguin swim all the way from the Southern Hemisphere to the North Pole without being eaten?"

If you take the place where Santa Claus lives and then find the place on Earth farthest away from that point... that's where penguins live.
Why not just do a Christmas lion or a Christmas sloth. They have about as much in common with the north pole as a damn penguin.

I figured it would be born female but at some point in early adolescence would identify as a male.

That's horseshite. Christmas is about both of you and the memories you build. If you get that from some dumb frick elf doll, spectacular
If your kid asks for an Elf on the Shelf, you buy it, you scrooge frick.

I hope the dude is just a troll. I guess he'll have his kids running around telling other kids that Santa isn't real.

when all of the kids at school and neighborhood are talking about their elves, you will be the one running out finding one. You will be amazed of how many words you eat to do for your kids and do all you can for them to make them happy. And I am guilty of this myself. But eating those words and doing those things will be the best things in your life.
So youre merely talking about not wanting to ostracize your child from his social group, more or less keeping him in the cool kids group. I dont have kids, but I can see how parents would want to do everything within their power to make sure that they dont actually set their kid back socially in any sort of way because we were all kids once and we all know how hard it can be to make bonds and friendships when growing up. I would like to believe that I wont be the type to give in because "it's what all the cool kids are doing" crap because I cant tell you how much I loathe that type of stuff (shitty pop music, shitty movies, shitty clothing choices, shitty pop music & shitty pop music) and how much the industry capitalizes on it (much like the "wedding industry" and the "engagement ring" industry). Giving in is something that I wont know until I experience it, but Im sure having a kid makes your heart melt and makes you more vulnerable to not sticking to your morals for the sake of just making them happy. I think the Elf thing is stupid and creepy as frick, but I can understand how awesome the game has got to be with your kid when they wake up and look on in bewilderment trying to figure out how he went from the mantle last night to the ceiling fan this morning. That's got to be pretty damn funny. You have to draw the line somewhere though, and putting it on facebook is pretty ridiculous no matter the intentions.

Maybe a Sir Edmund Hillary on the Sill or Eave
At least he went to the North Pole.
Better than Fransisco Eduardo Javier Ramirez the Decidedly Antarctic Penguin.

Yeah but with a full diseased elf series, you can teach your kids about death and stds as young as 3,but still preserve the holiday season feel.

The Elf on the Shelf is incredibly popular with kids, and parents like to get creative with it as well.
The whole point of Christmas is to get kids use to disappointment.

Just because it is wildly popular doesn't mean you have to hate it to be cool on the OT.
