He surpassed my current post count by the end of 2007...so, in like a month.

Exactly. Obviously this was a troll. But funny listening to people without kids saying all the things they won't do. I have a friend that use to rag on everything from all the first day of school pics post and so much more that he thought we were stupid for doing. Well he had a kid unexpectedly and is eating every one of his words. That is hilarious.

That's horseshite. Christmas is about both of you and the memories you build. If you get that from some dumb frick elf doll, spectacular. If you don't like the doll, there are plenty of other ways to build Christmas traditions and memories that are just as or even more meaningful.

Obviously by the amount of facebook posts about the elves, it's not so much about the kids anyway.

While I agree with the direction of your thought, as immaturely as it is worded, when all of the kids at school and neighborhood are talking about their elves, you will be the one running out finding one. You will be amazed of how many words you eat to do for your kids and do all you can for them to make them happy. And I am guilty of this myself. But eating those words and doing those things will be the best things in your life.

We do all the crazy stuff also. Not to put on Facebook, but because he gets such a kick out of it and cracks up.

I am not childless. Elf on the shelf isn't happening in my house, will probably be ruined for friends/classmates of my kids.

That's the great thing about having your own kids, you can raise them the way you want. Elf on a shelf is not a parenting tool I want to use to raise my kid. If they ask why they don't have one, it will be explained in a way me and my wife see fit.

So why should I give into some Christmas gimmick that's only origin is because some author 10 years ago found a way to make money off of parents?
You don't, and my kid loves it. My kid likes other stuff that generates money for others as well. Shame on me and my wife for adding to the kid's joy this holiday season.

Yeah but Sammy the Snowman and his pal Pablo the Penguin will have cash or candy attached to them every day

Kid will not care about an elf anymore

Like I said, the concept isn't bad.....its just the creepy factor of the elf i don't care for.

Wow!!! I'm speechless on that and that way of thinking when it comes to anything with kids. But to each their own.

What kind of shite parent would celebrate Christmas with a Mexican penguin?

You do realize that penguins live exclusively in the southern hemisphere right?

Because I don't want to go and sheep a new Christmas tradition with the rest of you? Sure, that definitely makes me a bad parent. I don't agree with it as a parenting tool and it won't be happening. If she comes home from school asking about it, it will be explained in a way me and my wife see fit. If that gets back to your kids, tough shite. The parenting of my child won't be dictated by the whims of other parents.

Hopefully the fad is gone by the time my kid hits schools anyway. My circle of friends don't have elves, so we don't have to worry about it with the kids she knows now.

I can't because penguins have no place in Christmas. Does your Santa come from the south pole?
