What is the purpose of burial in today's times?

Self explanatory. Why do we do it? What's the reasoning behind letting a body rot in a box?

Well, there are philosophical, religious, sanitary, and ecological reasons.

Because letting them rot in the backyard is a gruesome affair.

Families don't want to burn a loved one

Please elaborate. Not debating you. I'm curious

What a stupid thread. I mean even for a slow Friday night on a holiday weekend this is fycking stupid. You're the type to bitch about men letting women drive them or worrying about what other guys wear, aren't you?
Even if you're trolling, it's incredibly weak. I mean this is ban worthy for stupidity- even for the OT.

I want a sky burial.
Either that or donate my body to a hospital as a cadaver.

Everybody should be cremated and no land should be dedicated to grave sites. It's ducking retarded if you ask me.

I don't really have the time or interest to elaborate too much but lion king did a good job of explaining the whole idea of returning to the earth that gives you life.

Except getting buried in a coffin doesn't accomplish this at all.

Cremating and spreading the ashes doesn't accomplish this?

Yeah, we do a lot to preserve remains. Embalming, lead lined steel coffins and concrete vaults.

The wishes of the deceased play a part in it.
My mother was 66 when she passed away earlier this year.
Her wishes to be buried by (adjacent to) her father, mother and brother were expressed to me personally and in her will.
So with a heavy heart I did what she asked me to.
EDIT: (adjacent to)

There's the old vaudeville schtick-
Guy (to his boss): "Hey boss, I wanted to let you know I won't be in tomorrow, we're burying Mom."
Boss: "I'm sorry to hear that."
Guy: "It's OK, we have to, she's dead. And she's beginning to stink."
In every joke there's a germ of truth.

Well shite, that'll knock out 80% of the responses.
You probably think Nobel Peace Prize winners should actually do something before winning, don't you?
