re: What Is The Point Of LinkedIn?

Ive tried to delete my account tons of times but they refuse to just delete it. I have no interest in something that has become as fake as any social media. It seems as though LinkedIn was looking for more growth beyond professional networking and it was allowed to become a social media influencer clown show to drum up engagement.
Plus, the guy that founded/owns LinkedIn is a huge POS (Reid Hoffman).

I use it mostly for curiosity. It’s a good mix of self-promotion, virtue signaling, recruiting, and is filled with stale info.
My uncle died a dozen years ago and nobody ever deleted his account. His account posts work anniversary announcements each year….and people still congratulate him.

We can circle back to that but can we workshop the lack of synergy is his post? I think a reimagining is prudent.
Not before we take it offline to 360 this from 30,000 feet when we have more bandwidth. We don’t want to boil the ocean, and the proximity bias may keep us from breaking down the silos, particularly in light of recent churn.

Yep. The H1B market has pretty much destroyed my niche industry. Star Wars names now run recruiting companies in my field that exclusively hire in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
I cannot stress enough how poorly this is going to go. The repercussions of Indians and non-native speakers working on technical documentation, schematics, and engineering plans will have ruinous consequences downstream 5 years or so.

It used to be a place to stay in touch professionally now it sucks across the board. Definitely jumped the shark.

It’s also a place where low level employees in a company can kiss the CEO’s backside publicly by commenting on some vacuous post made by the CEO.

Job hunting. Nothing else.
Lol. It is a networking site. Businesses, large and small, promote their products, services, and achievements there in a modern day form of word of mouth advertising.
Sales uses it to plumb a target’s network and see who is mutually known, which competitors are possibly tied into your target.
Most importantly, it is now a self-aggrandizement platform for lackeys masquerading as thought leaders.

This stuff cracks me up. So many people acting like they’re so into their soul-sucking corporate job.
It’s a good place to hunt for jobs. That’s about it. Everything else on there is foolishness.

It’s people trying to flex in what they think is a white collar social media.
It’s painfully cheesy

Thank god i don't get much of that. Worst usually is they get my personal email, which at least has better spam controls than my work one.

Yeah i don't think we're far. Plenty of Saturday football beer drinking opportunities coming up.

I’m in sales, and personally it helps me market, keep up with where people are, network with some big wigs, and plan my territory accordingly. Not paying $89 per month for it (that seems only worth it if you’re in recruiting), but it’s useful.
