Vidor is bad, but large enough that you only catch a mean mugging on your way in/out from going to Smith Lake.
Before the hurricanes/LNG plants, the small towns in Cameron parish was a sure fire place to catch a boot whipping if you came in from out of town and didn’t know anyone.

Southern small towns.
Probably all small towns, but I only have experience with Southern ones.

Vidor is still a sundown town. I stopped there with a tan I got from Galveston Beach to get gas and almost got killed.

I come from a small town/backwoods area. The town I lived outside of would be warm and inviting enough to an outsider, assuming they even somewhat fit in. Probably won’t make good friends but you’ll be left alone. The next town over… you’re probably going to deal with some vandalism and theft.
The two towns are almost exactly the same when it comes to demographics, income, etc.

I’ve heard similar things about Witchita Falls, tx. No idea if that’s accurate though.

He required workers obtain a card to work in the parish. My dad always tells a story where he flashed his “card” to a national guard blocking traffic in belle chase and was waved through.
Most small towns where everyone knows everyone are somewhat skeptical of outsiders “taking our work and stealing our woman and bringing their ways into town”

Cullman, Alabama and Haleyville aren’t real kind to strangers with skin color. Sundowner towns.

Harrison or Huntsville Arkansas, especially if you have a good chocolate tan

I thought I'd seen the worst until I got caught in East St. Louis after dark, that is the bleakest place on the planet.
