What is the most distinctive car in every state? (Louisiana is balling..lol)

If you were to take a list of the most popular cars in each state in the U.S., it'd be a pretty monotonous list. A bunch of Ford F-150s, some Chevy Silverado and Ram pickups, the odd Honda Accord or Toyota Camry here or there.
But we were curious: What car was the most distinctive in each state? What model of car did, say, California buy far more often than any other state in the Union? We turned to auto analyst Tom Libby of IHS Automotive to help us crunch the numbers. First, Libby pulled data about the make and model of every car sold in the U.S., and calculated the popularity of each by percentage using registration data. Then, he did the same at the state level, and compared each state to the national average.
"I compared the share for each model in, for instance, Alabama with the share of the same of model in the United States and came up with a ratio," says Libby. "Then I basically ranked those ratios within each state. It's an interesting methodology—you're basically able to compare the individual demand of a model in a state with the individual demand at the national level, and see what ways is each state unique from the nation."

Texas is the least surprising thing ever. And how does Virginia already have a disproportionate number of Audi S3's? That car's only been on dealer lots for like 5 months.

I can't understand his logic, honestly. The Caddy isn't the most purchased SUV in Texas by a large margin.

The Escalade EXT is a joke hahaha.
One of my good friends has had two of them thus far, but now pretty much anybody I know who isn't a plebe has a raptor or some kind of luxury F-series truck.

Buncha Dodge Truck fans up in Montana. I guess they fixed that nagging heater core problem that plagued that model during the 1990's-early 2000's!

I didn't read through the methodology but I'm guessing that it isn't the most purchased vehicle but the largest difference from the national average in the positive direction.
So say Escalade sales are 3% of all national car sales and Suburban's are 10% of all national car sales...
In TX the Escalade accounts for 7% of sales and the Suburban accounts for 12%
There's still more Suburban sales, but Escalade has more popularity in TX based on the national average of sales.

I would switch Idaho and MT based on my observations. I guess I'm basing it mostly on NW MT and Idaho Panhandle though. I just commented this summer in Idaho that every other car was a Ram truck. Dave Smith motors was right down the street though. Supposedly the WORLD'S LARGEST CHRYSLER RAM JEEP DEALER.

You've convinced me you're correct and thank you.
And I guess I better admit I once had a 2009 Escalade Sport package. Thing was a Vette with 4 doors and a back liftgate. 406 HP and was very fun to drive.

I knew ours would be some type of Subaru

Seeing the Subaru being the top car in Alaska is no surprise. I remember seeing them everywhere when I lived there in the mid-80's.

Florida - BMW 760.
Three Rolls Royce models, including the Phantom, Ghost and Wraith, all have market shares in Florida more than three times their national averages.
