The Bardstown, Kentucky cold cases of Crystal Rogers (missing), her Dad (Tommy Ballard), Kathy and Samantha Netherland, and Kentucky State Trooper Jason Ellis.

I'm still convinced she found out about some shite her boyfriend Brooks Houck and his cop brother was involved in. And they killed her to cover it up and they disposed of her body on their family farm. Then when her Dad started getting too close, they killed him while he was out on his hunting land one morning.

I also think Jason Ellis is tied to their deaths. He was ambushed on his route home in the evening, shot when he tried to move branches (that weren't native to the area) in the middle of the road blocking the ramp. He wasn't driving his regular squad car, so there's belief that a fellow officer may have tipped someone off to what he was driving. The Netherlands were also brutally murdered (mother and daughter) in their homes with no suspects around the same time.

The FBI got involved not too long ago after some remains were found in the area but they were determined to not be hers (Crystal Rogers).

The new Nelson County Sheriff basically said they have a good idea what happened to her but just don't have enough evidence to convict. When the FBI showed up, they raided Brooks Houck and his brother's homes. And their family farm.

FBI website on the Crystal Rogers Taskforce (also mentions Ellis and Ballard's deaths as well)

Given how small the area is, I can't imagine someone locally not recognizing the guy if he is a local.

What I mean is, if he is local, he has probably been identified*. But the phone video is so grainy and the composite sketch is just an approximation, it wouldn't be enough to arrest him.

It will be a bitch of an investigation if he has no prior criminal history or has never been stupid enough to send his DNA to 23andMe. Without hard evidence, they can't do much with an identification.

*The police/DA haven't even released the cause of death yet because they don't want to screw up anything that goes to trial. Since they are playing the case really close to the vest, I doubt they would let the public know of any uncorroborated identifications yet.

Tanya Marange of Mandeville. Someone jumped her on her own property, beat her severely and left her for dead. Somehow she survived the assault, but the beating put her into a coma for a couple years before she died. She was also pregnant at the time. Two lives lost.

The Lake Oconee murders.

quote:

The murders of Russell and Shirley Dermond occurred in early May 2014. Russell Dermond was found dead on May 6, 2014, in the garage of the house he owned next to Lake Oconee in Putnam County, Georgia. His body had been decapitated when it was found, and his head could not be found in the house. Russell's wife, Shirley Dermond, could not be located in the house either. More than a week later, her body was discovered floating in Lake Oconee, about five miles from her house. She appeared to have died from a blow to her head, and her body had been weighted down with concrete blocks. Her body floated to the surface because it was not sufficiently weighted to keep it underwater. Unlike her husband, she had not been decapitated. At the time of their deaths, Russell was 88 years old and Shirley was 87. As of November 29, 2020, the murders remain unsolved, and Russell's head still had not been found.]

The disappearance of Brittany Wood in Mobile is a creepy one.

She disappears and then the next day her uncle offs himself in his truck. The following years we see most of her family rolled up for sexual abuse/ sex trafficking/incest charges.

They still haven’t found her. I always kinda wondered if she turned and is in witness protection somewhere but she’s probably dead.

The Keddie Cabin Murders always top my list.

quote:

The Keddie murders is an unsolved 1981 quadruple homicide in Keddie, California, a rural resort town in the Sierra Nevada. The victims were Glenna Susan "Sue" Sharp (née Davis; born March 29, 1945); daughter Tina Louise Sharp (born July 22, 1968); son, John Steven Sharp (born November 16, 1965); and John's friend, Dana Hall Wingate (born February 8, 1964).

The murders took place in house #28 of the Keddie Resort during the late evening of April 11, 1981 or early the following morning. The bodies of Sue, John, and Dana were found on the morning of April 12 by Sue's 14-year-old daughter, Sheila, who had been sleeping at a friend's house. Sue's two younger sons, Rick and Greg, as well as their friend Justin Smartt, were also in the house, but were unharmed. Tina was missing from the scene.

Tina remained a missing person until April 1984, when her skull and several other bones were recovered at Camp Eighteen, California, near Feather Falls in Butte County.

Late 80's I think. I knew Tanya's family. She lived on the corner of McNamara & Lafitte.

Another crazy one was some guy around the Hoover Dam that would drug girls and horrificly sexually abuse them in his sex trailer thing for days on end and then kill them, sometimes release them.

Robert Ben Rhoades?

He's the one that had the "sex dungeon" in his trucker cab and would kidnap and torture victims for weeks before killing them. He killed over 50 people over like 15 years. He's also the one that killed Regina Kay Walter, whose photograph is famous:

The Hinterkaifeck Murders (Germany, 1922) LINK

quote:

The Hinterkaifeck murders occurred on the evening of March 31, 1922, in which six inhabitants of a small Bavarian farmstead, located approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) north of Munich, Germany, were murdered by an unknown assailant. The six victims were: Andreas Gruber (63) and Cäzilia Gruber (72); their widowed daughter Viktoria Gabriel (35); Viktoria's children, Cäzilia (7) and Josef (2); and the maid, Maria Baumgartner (44). They were found struck dead. The perpetrator lived with the 6 corpses of their victims for 3 days. The murders are considered one of the most gruesome and puzzling unsolved crimes in German history.

quote:

Strange things began to occur in and around Hinterkaifeck sometime shortly before the attack. Six months before the attack, the family maid quit. It has been widely claimed that her reason for leaving was that she had heard strange sounds in the attic and believed the house to be haunted. Andreas Gruber found a strange newspaper from Munich on the property in March 1922. He could not remember buying it and this Gruber initially believed that the postman had lost the newspaper.[3] This was not the case, however, as no one in the vicinity subscribed to the paper.[4] Just days before the murders, Gruber told neighbours he discovered tracks in the fresh snow that led from the forest to a broken door lock in the farm's machine room.[3] Later during the night they heard footsteps in the attic, but Gruber found no one when he searched the building. Although he told several people about these alleged observations, he refused to accept help and the details went unreported to the police.

Was anyone ever arrested in that story of the girl that was burned alive in N Miss? There were several long threads on it but I don't remember if it was ever solved.
