Wow... That video is very eye opening.

The theory is the virus still spreads, but at a much lower rate. A rate that would not put our hospitals over capacity.
this talking point died in early April b/c our hospitals aren't anywhere near critical capacity, even in hot spots like LA/NYC
it's an insane view anywhere other than hot spots, which i don't know if they truly even exist at this moment

I do. The theory is that we can reach collective immunity either quickly or slowly, and I f we reach it quickly, too many people will be infected at once and we won’t be able to accommodate all of the critical cases.

They should have been opening as hospital capacity was available. The virus is not going away and people will continue to get it. Might as well have people get it when availability is there.
That doesn't work when you can spread the virus for 10-14 days without knowing you have it, and we don't have nearly enough tests to regularly test people. You can get a huge group of very sick people in a very short time span, and it will just keep increasing over the next 10-14 days even after you've shut everything back down.

It's a very stupid idea.
Some place are telling restaurants they can open at 25% capacity. Demand outweighs supply so you then get a crowd waiting outside for a table to open up. Meanwhile, the business has gone from zero revenue to 25% of normal revenue, which is really no help in keeping the doors open.

Businesses still suffer

It would be far better to just go back to 100% open immediately.

I can't help you. Sorry.

Are they not able to sell to-go orders?

This theory has been disproven time and time again. Next!

Yep! Wonder if they've thought of that yet??

Are you trying to talk sense to these morons? Stop that.

It's a conspiracy, brah. They want all the alphas to go out and get it and thin them out some. Once that's done, they'll introduce the cure they're sitting on so the betas can take over.
Don't you even OT logic, man.

So politicians look competent and like this wasn’t just some chicken-little over-reactionary crap.

I think we have enough data globally to show that this argument is null and void. Even the most open societies did not overwhelm their hospitals. Quit arguing against the data.
I'm not arguing against the data. I just shared what the theory was on why stuff is not opening rapidly.

A very large percentage of people who contract the virus, have little to no symptoms. Are you suggesting that EVERYONE is tested before opening back up? How about this idea: If you are in a high-risk group that is susceptible to extreme complications from the virus, you just stay home.

How many deaths would you need to see before thinking the steps taken to mitigate weren’t overreactionary?

We should ban cars and sugar next

10,000 deaths in Louisiana, at least as many as the number of annual abortions in this state. That’s when I would start considering closing schools and government offices. Businesses and churches never should be forced to close by the government. Let businesses and customers and workers decide what should be open.
Right now, we have 2000 deaths, the overwhelming majority of which are people who are extremely elderly or already in poor health who would have (and probably actually did) died from their other ailments. Covid isn’t really that dangerous, but it’s contagious enough that our measures have not contained it. It’s running its course because it’s impossible to avoid, but it’s really not that dangerous to those who catch it except to those who are susceptible to everything.
