100% agree.

Their parents’ generation was cynical and taught them working hard does not, in fact, get you ahead.

I really have no idea.
I have worked in restaurants my entire adult life, and yeah, some people are always complaining about the revolving class of 18-22 year old kids, and that's always true to an extent.
But the past five years or so, those kids have really questioned whether I am just Old old now or if I am witnessing generational deterioration.
There are exceptions, always will be, but by and large they are horrible.

I'm a borderline millennial-Gen Zer and I definitely wasn't raised on screens and social media, it wasn't even really that big when I was in high school.

100% disagree and Im a millineal. I work with 7 Gen Z'ers analysts, and they all have extremely great work ethic in my office. I admit that they even seem hungrier than me at times and will do anything asked of them no questions asked. Something tells me that the roles you're hiring for pay sub $50k and aren't that in demand. As the old adage goes, you pay for what you get.
If you fire one, on your next job posting say that it pays $100k on job description, and I'd bet a lot you're gonna get a great Gen Z'er

According to anyone over 50 years old since the B.C. era, every young generation is lazy with no work ethic and entitled as there ever has been. Funny bc if that were true the world would digress, except technology is exponentially greater today than it was then. Pretty much all the major inventions came from people who were under 45 years old. You think AI or Facebook or Tesla originated from a 60 year old man? No way. It has always been created by the younger aged professionals as they are more open to new concepts and adapting new concepts and technology. Meanwhile a 60 year old in my office couldn't even work a SUM formula in Excel while making $300k. He was fired bc he was of no use. Mgmt said it took him 60 minutes what it took a 25 year old engineer to do in 5 minutes while making 2x as much as them. He had no idea, desire, or most imporantly - the wherewithal to know what direction to go to figure it out - to learn what new technologies that were available for our project. Mgmt didn't trust him to put up accurate work or complete in a timely manner, so he was delegated to just entering invoices into BlueBeam. A 60 yr old engineer prob making over $300k total comp was assigned to just input invoices into a program. Unbelievable. He and another 60 year old employee that the owners felt same way about were fired.
I think it's extremely important for older folks in the workforce to stay up to current on new tech, engineering, and methods especially high paying jobs. I know I will when I age. If you become complacent on what you knew in the early 90s and lack the desire to adapt, you'll just get replaced. Happened 2x where I was. I mean no company owes you, me, John, Bob anything. You have to be an asset.

When I'm interviewing someone for a tech job and they ask me how long they get off for spring break, I just want to cry.

Whether they realize it or not, many Gen Z kids have a nihilistic and hedonistic outlook on life. They just don’t think things like work ethic matters. They just wanna do fun stuff.

Desert Storm? Korea?
We were militarily successful in occupying both Iraq and Afghanistan. Just because our politicians don’t have the stomach to finish a war doesn’t mean that our military can’t tactically win one.

It's not that they don't want to work...It's that they refuse to work for wages that won't allow them to get their lives started. Once upon a time, Boomers could graduate High School and immediately go to work somewhere paying a wage that could afford them a house, a marriage, and a few kids. This younger generation knows this and they aren't playing the game even though they are being shamed to death by being called "lazy" or having "no work ethic". Boomers fricked this country up so bad that it has the young people it deserves.
