a gust of 104 mph was recorded.

Rookie numbers, Holly beach experienced 153mph winds, and Lake Charles 133mph winds during hurricane Laura, that bitch.

I was legitimately pulling pieces of shingles out of the ground in my yard that were imbedded 2-3 inches.

I’ve only lived in Lafayette proper for 7 years, but the highest wind gusts I’ve experienced here were caused by a random thunderstorm back in May.

A hurricane with 150mph winds and 192mph gusts was only a cat 4?

I mean 192mph is like a strong tornado.

I’m convinced Laura was a 5. The destruction wasn’t as widespread as Rita (which had high winds from Beaumont to Lafayette), a Cat 3.

But, the damage in Lake Charles from Laura was so severe, it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, including other Cat 4 storms like Ida. A lot of storm cleanup guys said it was the worst they’d ever seen, too. Don’t know how it wasn’t considered a 5 based on visible evidence.

Well, maybe not at your home, but the local stations recorded gusts up to 77 and if the worse Lafayette has received is 82 mph, I think that would be considered "bad".

Lived thru every hurricane for 53 years in Lafayette. I agree, on May 13th this year, I have never experienced stronger winds than that. It only lasted a couple minutes but it was incredible. We had two 80 foot trees dropped in a couple seconds. I still think it was a small tornado with all of the damage and the circular winds. Lili was the most intense winds over a long period of time, but it wasn't that bad.

Yea, that was the highest winds I’ve experienced in my 10 years here, or ever in my lifetime for that matter. That was worse than Gustav when I was living in BR.

I’m from just north of Lafayette and Lilly was the one I remember the most.

Been living in Prairieville for 10 years now and I’ve never experienced anything like Ida in ‘21. That shite was intense

Gustav had 91mph gust at the BR airport. Near 100mph gust in Broadmoor so many trees uprooted.

My strong iron basketball goal in the cement got tilted over ; and could not budge it! A vulgar display of power!

I didn’t realize Lili was in October for some reason I thought it was earlier than that. I was young but remember how it was a monster in the gulf and miraculously weakened a bit right at landfall.
