yes. i'd recommend the water heater, the hot water heater, you have to get a pre heating element for it to get the water hot for it to cycle through the hot water heater.

I would say just go for the hot heater. It is the most efficient. Water has too high of a heat capacity and takes too much energy to heat. That costs way too much money. The heater is ok, but if you are gonna spend the money to get a heater.... You might as well get the hot heater. IMHO.

Depends on a few variables but somewhere in this range-

$0.00 < Cost < Eleventy Billion Dollars

If it's in the attic and you are in Louisiana just put a water tank up there, just use free heat to hear the water.

A hot water heater boils off too much water, I suggest the regular water heater.

I just bought (2) 50 gallon heaters and had them delivered to the house for $800. Since they are easy to get to in the attic, and my attic has very high roof line, he is charging me $550 to change out both. It will be done this Saturday.

The old ones lasted 13 years.

In the Birmingham area, The utility company will give you a free water heater if you tell them you are changing over from electric to gas (or from gas to electric... depending on what your system is.) They don't care if you're lying.

The dip tube disintegrated and is clogging the shower head and sink aerator.
I am considering doing it myself. It's 'lectric so I don't have to mess with gas piping.

get ready to get fricked.

regulations require new water heaters to have energy-saving crap on them which make newer ones...wait for it...

...too big to fit through normal attic access points.

so you're gonna have to find someone who will be willing to sell you a good old $400 water heater from 2 years ago or go with a tankless.

you can thank obama.

They started to collect water in the drip pan underneath. When I pressed on the top cover of the tank, I could hear and feel water pressing out of the fittings. One was shot and the other was probably not too far off...so I am just going to replace both now rather than deal with the second one in 8 months when it decides to crap out.

I also want to take care of it sooner than later as the feeling of 100 gallons of water possibly letting go on the ceilings above is unnerving!!

plumbers always lookin to charge extra,
wife (no pics) calls plumber to change 40 gal water heater in garage cuz it's leaking and I'm at work, plumber tells wife when he gets there he needs $400 more cuz he needs 3 more guys to get old unit out cuz it weighs almost 400lbs, wife hands phone to plumber, I ask if he has done any work yet, no, I tell plumber to pack his shite up and get the hell off my property cuz I don't want him to do anything if he believes the unit weighs almost 400lbs AFTER its drained, I pick up one at wholesale plumbing supply and did it myself for 25% of what plumber originally quoted...

At least you had some advance warning, but you gotta look. I think I'll start inspecting mine twice a year instead of just whenever I'm in the attic.
