What is the best way to tell a neighbor his contractor is doing a half assed job?

Or should I not even mention to him? I kind of feel its similar to the situation of knowing someone is being cheated on by their SO. I know I'd want to know, but some people don't. I don't want to impose, but I also don't want him getting a bad product.
Back story: Neighbor, not next door, but I know him. Anyways, I've been watching the addition go up and without even going up to the house you can see that things aren't being done very well. For example they've got the tyvek up and there are lap issues, tears, and the installation of the windows with the tyvek isn't correct. I know its not correct because you can look up tyvek installation details very easily on the web. Anyway I know the contractor is probably feeding him some BS about caulk, in my experience you don't want caulk being your only line of defense at keeping water out of your house.

Just tell him.
This will require you getting up and talking to him like a normal person.

Hit up the contractor for hush money.

Neighbor chose the lowest bidder so now he is getting the economy job he paid for. Tell him next time don't be a cheap arse.

I don't know enough about it to say if it's worth it to tell him.

Encourage your neighbor to join TD and check the OT. Hopefully he'll get it.

Through the timeless art of pantomime. However, miming his contractor fricking him in the arse might be a little touch and go there for a minute.

As a Tyvek rep here in La I appreciate you being aware of a good install. I would subtly let him know. Better to know and be able to fix then pay thousands to resolve a water / mold issue. Have him call Tyvek and they will forward him to his local rep and they will come out at no charge to address install issues.

What percentage of contractors are crappy or shady? It certainly seems high because the majority of stories I hear about them from others are terrible. Shitty workmanship, not showing up multiple times, projects lags, getting paid but not finishing the job without threats of legal action.

Majority of contractors are hacks and don't know squat. Amazing how you can get a contractors license and have no experience or knowledge of the trade. Ton of people out there who use someone else's license as well.
Let's watch hgtv, get awesome signs, buy some general liability, get my cousin who is a electrician but has a GC license to let us build under him and make bank! These clowns are by the dozen in lakeview, old Metairie, etc.
