IIRC, the Mustang was designed for pilots to have the HP to press the Zero into those angle of accent and history proved the result was a strong advantage in combat.
Negative. The P-51 was designed for combat in the ETO. The laminar flow wing was revolutionary in that it helped increase the range dramatically. The wing, combined with the RR Merlin, gave the P-51 the ability to do what no other fighter could. It was also one of the most agile fighters in history. It could do what the Spitfire could for 8 hours instead of 1.
But, you may be thinking of the F6F Hellcat. It was designed to face the Zero.

And it did it quite well. By the end of the war the Hellcall had a 13:1 kill ratio over the Zero.

Yes sir. I'd love to see a face off between the Hellcat and Corsair.

It sure is. Tamiya is my favorite. Although Airfix has really come on strong. Their newer kits are outstanding. Hasegawa is also another favorite of mine as well.

I built Ira Kepford's bird in the Tamiya kit. Let me see if I can find pics.
I like Hase on some kits and have a few Airfix but haven't built them yet. Am building an A-10.

I didn't like the old Airfix planes. But the newer ones are awesome. Here are three Airfix kits I've done recently.
