What is a country in the world that is assumed to be really poor, but actually isn't?

What is an example of a nation that people think is third world/really underdeveloped, but is actually a lot more middle class with a decent standard of living than people often assume?
Maybe some african nation?
Not necessarily a first world/rich nation, but a nation that could be referred to as "2nd world" or something.
I will give my answer: Botswana
Botswana residents enjoy a higher standard of living than people living in Mexico.
