Mexico is relatively a lot "richer" than most Americans probably think. Median income is about the same as Russia as is overall GDP.
Some middle income countries that are "wealthier" than some might think:

Chile went from a totalitarian government to basically a capitalist, you can finance anything economic system and it has resulted in massive growth.

Oman
Surprisingly nice country. Had some work there and really enjoyed it. Including a week that I took off and just drove around and saw the sights. It's night and day better than Saudi.

Nigeria has a lot of money. It all gets funneled to corrupt politicians and the people of Nigeria are super poor. But the country itself has money from whoring out of its oil.
