Holy cow.. that’s even more egregious than a run capacitor on an ac unit.

If they get 750 bucks to replace that.. I’m in the wrong business.

These prices are the result of people not being able to fix anything anymore. It used to be women with mechanics.. now it’s clueless men with basic repairs.

Just a FYI in case no one mentioned it.. If at all possible, always get 3 estimates. Someone once told me to get 3 estimates and go with the bid in the middle, but reading this thread... There are some real shite bags out there who try to suck every penny they can out of people. I don't see how people like that stay in business for a long time.

$5400 to install, float and texture 2 sheets of drywall. I already cut it out, replaced the insulation, and I told him I’d prime and paint myself.

12 windows. Though my house was built in the 50s, so the bedroom windows are tiny compared to what a newer house would have.

My 80 y/o dad would literally come out of retirement, get some of the old gang back together, and get back to it for 7 grand a water heater. And he is REALLY enjoying retirement.

Hell… I’d do the work. He could sit, watch, and answer the phone for the next one and I’d quit my job now in a heartbeat to do it for one install a day.

No problem.

We got quotes from Anderson, Acadian, and Window World.

Anderson was obviously out the box with their price. Their product is impressive, and they are certainly proud of it. But I'm not putting $27k worth of windows on my 70 year old shanty.

Window World was the cheapest price.

Acadian was about $400 more expensive. We went with them mainly because they use their own crews, and there was a superintendent on site during the installation.

Window World couldn't guarantee that they wouldn't sub out the installation. And they would not have a foreman or super on site.
