Yeah bro, yeah. Concrete is messy, heavy af, the equipment is heavy af, you have to tow heavy af. Doing concrete will destroy a truck in less than a year. Sure the sales guy can show up in a nice clean at4, but not one worker better show up in a non tradesmans, WT, crank window edition or get the hell out of here.

$42,000 to replace a duel zone HVAC system that has two 3-ton units. He tried to tell me he'd see if he could work a deal to reduce it a bit, but I kept laughing at him as i guided him to the door.

Replacement ended up costing under $20K, which is still high but the instillation for the interior coils and return air was pretty difficult due to the location and layout of the attic. So, I considered pretty reasonable considering.

$8K for an 18x20 concrete slab..today.

[quote]That should be a $3,500 job, at worst.

True.

I just paid $3300 to have one section of my driveway replaced. 16 x 21.

And I thought that was outrageous.

Not to mention most new 3/4-1 ton trucks are not going to be less than 60k. And as long as its a business expense, why not spend a bit more on what you want.

Concrete is a tough business. Even if you aren't getting your hands dirty, the revolving door of labor is a nightmare. Take a week off for vacation and half your crew will find other jobs and may or may not come back.
With roofing and concrete, the trade is just a side job. The main job is finding labor.

If anyone deserves an 80k write-off, its a small time concrete owner.

That'd be a pretty good price in my area today even on a pancake level pad where it could be poured straight out of the truck. Its higher than giraffe pussy but a pretty good price.

IF it is pancake flat or close and is accessible where you can pour it from the truck it ain't rocket science. It is damned hard and hot work but its about 5 1/2 yards with a footing, some digging, some rebar and some 2x4s and a lot of sweat.

I just did a quick RS Means takeoff and estimate an in my area RS Means says it would average about $10,500. RS Means is usually about 20% high in my area so that'd be $8400. RS Means is the recognized industry standard for construction / maintenance and facility maintenance costs but you would starve to death using it to quote competitive work LOL...but it is a pretty close ballpark. My area is pretty typical of most of the south outside of major cities like Atlanta.

3500 is not a bad price for that - if there is not any demo or tear out/haul off - that is kind of a bare minimum price. Closer to 4k or 4200 should be the number including tear out/ haul off, form, place, finish, with proper reinforcement, ground stabilization, joints cut or keyway, ect.

$3500 in my area would be a great price. I can do it myself and I'd have $2K or better in material with no overhead, profit or labor. Concrete is high as hell here right now....

Commercial?

Lol you can hardly remodel a small house for $60k much less add ADA compliant bathrooms to a commercial building. Probably on a slab which means busting concrete out to tie the drains in and you want it done for $60k. GTFO

He instantly got pissy with me and packed his shite up and left.

When I was young, I think when I turned 18 I joined the Knights of Columbus. It might have been 10 years later when I decided not to renew my membership. I got a call from some guy who sold insurance and wanted to come talk to me about renewing my membership and offering me some type of insurance I could only get being a member. The guy pleaded with me and asked if he could come talk to me in person. I remember telling him something like "I can assure you that us meeting in person will not change my mind, but if you want to waste your time sure".

Guy comes over and he gives me his spiel and I told him that I told him on the phone I had no interest and I didn't change my mind. That guy snapped, he went from being this jolly older guy to trying to manipulate me. He said something like "I drove here from Lafayette and now I have to go back in all of that traffic and for what? You are making a mistake and just to let you know, once I get in my car you will never get a deal like this again".. He was just throwing shite out and came off like he was pissed. I laughed and told him he should be mad at himself because I assured him I wasn't going to get the insurance".

I find it amusing when sales people get pissed.. Like.. How dare you tell them no.
