But other than the fear of going to hell, why should you believe that God exists?
Because everything clearly reveals its Creator.
All of this beautiful complicated place; its intricate systems of water sun & air, life, flora and fauna; its rhyme & reason; cellular miracles; the love & connections of body mind and spirit.
It is up to all of us to personally seek and acknowledge God as our Maker and Father who has offered us a Plan and Home for all Eternity in Perfection and Love. (No church can act as our proxy)
The reason we have evil and death in this world is because it (and we) are fallen in sin and disobedience since nearly the beginning. This world has been under the Domain of Lucifer, Satan, Prince of the Air (as well as their demons, whose power is growing stronger during these Last Days.)
Be mindful that this place is only temporary, a wisp of smoke. God's earthly Son Jesus reminds us: "I am the Way the Truth and the Life; NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER BUT THROUGH ME." (So truly open your heart and ask Him to reveal Himself to you.)
(IOW, those who are content merely with "believing God" -- that won't be good enough. It will be like being stopped at Third Base by the coach, never allowed to cross home plate to be with both God and Jesus forever.)

I for one would never try to dissuade you from believing in God, Xenu or the FSM. I've arrived at certain conclusions, but it's not my place nor do I have any interest in trying to persuade anybody. You do you.

Because God set us up to fail. Then he blames us for it and prescribes the direst consequences for something he assured would happen. If a parent did that they'd be arrested for child abuse.

Where did all matter and energy come from? What are we doing? What is all of this? The universe, existence...

I love this topic bc I truly enjoy hearing ppl’s opinions unbiasedly. To me, it holds a similar fascination as the question of how the pyramids were built. Nobody knows unequivocally.
But here’s my question as someone who is 100% on the fence with this debate and could sway one way or the other. I went to a catholic high school and still never was given a definitive answer on this:
If everyone believes in science bc science can be proven fact and it doesn’t care about your feelings regardless of your beliefs, then how can the scientific explanation of how the world was created along with evolutionary details/descriptions/time charts be WRONG simply bc the church tells you to believe otherwise. So to believe in God, one must disbelieve science? I’m confused.

This may be a odd way to address confidence of faith .
But the almost fantastical and improbable string of bad luck that I have had in the last five years, the humiliation,The second apartment I was in years 2 and 3 of my post-stroke existence I was attacked four separate times.Twice by women once by pair of 10 year old and the last time by a drug maddened teenager all of whom made a point of letting me know it was because I was white the family stealing my money. Me trying to continue to work because that's what I wanted to do and the amount of evil and petty people that I came across in that short time, I was disabled and they didn't care . The callousness in almost cruelty of people just out in the public who don't seem to regard me even being a person like they literally pretend I'm not there so they can grab the yogurt that they so desperately need out of the forty other yogurts but they got to get the one . I know people are rude but that never happened to me before the stroke not to the degree and the repetition that it does now The number of times I have reached out to church organizations to try to get involved with them but also find a community because I need help. And they fail,,each time to live up to my need.
Longtime friends who seemed to have forgotten me and people that don't return calls even though I've told them I've got nothing else to do but visit.
But I will still get talls from people who want me to advise them about a campaign or put them in touch with some one.
And no matter how many times I try and how much effort I put into it how everything seems to fail and I'm not getting better.
And still I can address life with a smile on my face I have confidence somehow that I;m gonna beat this. Even if I'm getting fatter and flabbier and I strongly suspect have had at least two heart attacks
even if everything I've tried to do I failed
I still believe that somehow someway I'm going to beat this and it's not going to be that I ever throw a baseball again like my original plan and it's not like I'm going to go back to work and return to normal like I had hoped
But something in me keeps trying and there's no reason I should try based upon my current streak.
And I'm gonna sit here and admit I'm not that strong, I feel like a failure because my record as of late, is what it is. And it seems vv hopeless
so it has to be something else that's bigger than I am that keeps me going and I believe if if my faith is strained and my confidence in me is weak then its a higher/greater power that I ever thought I had, and that was always God

Those that wrestle with a God that allows suffering, please read and deeply think about the following:
Free-will is CRITICAL in understanding the world today. We are created in the image of God. We therefore, have free-will and are not mindless robots that are forced to worship an all-powerful God. From an omnipotent perspective, if you create a robot that is forced to love you because it has no alternative, is that love? The answer is obviously “no”. We are given exquisite intelligence and reason and instructed to subdue the Earth. God loves us and will therefore allow us to choose our own path. If we choose to reject him, he will honor that request. God has given us the gift of self-determination. Something that most/all creatures under our subjugation, do not enjoy.
So why would God create a world of suffering, rape, murder and the very darkest things we see in mankind? The simple answer is that he didn’t.
WE chose this path. God created a world that was free from suffering and pain and misery. He also created us to have free-will because he loves us and wants us to have an unforced relationship with him. Humans, who were created in the image of God and thus have free-will, decided that being in close relationship with the creator was not sufficient and that we wanted to be more god-like in our understanding (against Gods own instruction and warning). God honored that decision, but there are MASSIVE consequences to that decision…death, pain, suffering, and having our eyes opened to the truth of good and evil. God didn’t force this misery upon us, we chose it.
He warned us of the destruction we might choose, yet here we are blaming God for giving us free-will and self-determination.

The Romans were very good at killing people. Jesus died, they even speared his side to make sure. Jesus was resurrected 3 days later and appeared to 500 eye witnesses over 40 day period. So much so that those disciples were completely on fire for God that they went out and spread the gospel even under threat of death. They didn’t care because they know what they saw was undeniable. You don’t do that for something fake. The joke would be up, you’d say anything to live. But all of them were killed for spreading Jesus’ teachings and what they witnessed. Just go look at all the prophecy’s fulfilled. The Old Testament predates prophecy’s from the New Testament by thousands of years. It’s incredible. We are talking lineages, rise and fall of kingdoms, and of course the birth of Jesus(and the exact lineage he’d be from).
How do you know George Washington existed, you never saw him? Could be fake but no you understand and trust that credible people saw him and witnessed what he did.
I understand I won’t just make you believe with some random post on the OT. Believe me I understand where I am lol. But brother I’ve been down the road of questioning all kinds of stuff with religion. Just go look at all the prophecy’s the Bible correctly predicted. Go look at where they’ve found the chariots in the river where Moses led them across in Egypt. Go google the mountain side where the 10 commandments were given and see the fire burned into the side of it. Go see how they have thousands of 99.9% sulphur bulbs in the middle of where Sodom and Gomorrah were. There are many more examples. Please don’t let the way man has perverted Christianity block you from God’s word. I’ve been there, go scrutinize it, it holds up. Don’t worry about getting into some debate with some random guy on tigerdroppings. Google Cliffe Knechtle, he goes around to college campuses and answers tough questions that I think you may have.

There had to be a beginning to space, time, and matter. If there was an infinite regression of events we could never 'get here from there.'
That does not prove that the beginning was the creation of the God of the Bible, but it does require there be a discrete beginning. The atheist, who may well concur, cannot and must not allow god into their picture, will then posit the imaginary multiverse. But in the words of one of the new atheists Christopher Hitchens, "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence." Sorry, Christopher, no multiverse allowed.
I cannot prove to you that the God of the Bible is the god of the beginning, and one cannot disprove the God of the Bible is not the Creator.
People don't believe in God because of intellectual hang-ups. They use those to run cover for their heart. "The wicked fool says in his heart, “There is no God" (Psalm 14:1).
"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, both His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." (Romans 1:20)

How about the narcissism of people that believe in god and also believe that they’re god’s favorite pupil?

That’s not the best answer. if it was truly a sacrifice, he would’ve sent Jesus to hell forever. But instead, his punishment was to live as a man for 33 years, die and go to heaven.
The better answer is free will, that we have a choice. But it falls flat also, as only god has free will. Jim is right.

Using logic to try and convince someone of God’s existence is a fools errand. No one comes to God until he calls them.
