This is the thread where we make fun of sheltered people. Not food preferences.

Never had real sushi as I'm allergic to shellfish.

I'm not understanding the reasoning here. Are you concerned that the tuna, salmon, red snapper, etc has come into contact with shellfish?

Can't say I have ever had anchovies before, although maybe I'd like them since I like salty foods (or am I confusing them with sardines).

Never tried coffee. I'm 57

FIL is 72 and can say the same thing. MIL drinks it, he just said the smell turns him off to trying it.

I’ve never had a Twinkie.
Also didn’t try Coca Cola until I was probabaly 16. We never really went out to eat and it wasn’t something my mom bought us. I remember having childhood friends guzzling that soda constantly

So try salmon sushi. Or yellowfin. Octopus. Most sushi does not involve shellfish.

I have never eaten durian. It's hard to find in the US but is pretty popular in Asia. Supposedly people either think it is delicious or smells rotten, not much in between.

Some things sound gross but are good if prepared properly.

You might miss out on some great food.

Or you won't. I'm fairly picky. There has never once been a food I refused to try, then eventually gave in and suddenly liked it. Not a single one. My mom used to force a spoonful of something we didn't like (mostly veggies) all through middle school. I never once just flipped a switch and loved lima beans or beats or any other thing she made us try.

Now as I got older, I forced myself to tolerate some foods that I hated less than others (broccoli, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc.) purely to have a better diet. But when push comes to shove, I eat those to better myself, not because I truly enjoy them.

There is an international farmer's market in Decatur, GA (just a few miles east of Atlanta) and they sell whole frozen durian. We bought one years ago, let it thaw out and then cut into that bad boy. We did this on the deck so as not to stink up the house.

The flesh had a texture similar to creamy custard, but that's about where the pleasantries end. This was by far the most vile thing that I ever tasted. We all had to pinch our noses just to get the fruit into our mouths. Only 1 of 4 was actually able to swallow a bite. The other 3 folks (including me) either threw up or spit it out before swallowing (TWSS)
