Interestingly enough the Houston metro crime rate is far higher than the Atlanta metro crime rate. They seem to do a good job of containing it, I guess.

In Atlanta you have hood rats at every store, in Dallas, you have Indians.

Based on how Atlanta votes. I’d say trashy. What brings Georgia down.

LOL. I have plenty of expletives for you, having flown out of that POS over a hundred times.

That's the only thing that will get ITP chodes to go OTP.
Atlanta was only successful because outside of Texas, there is almost nowhere to go in the south for a metro area with tons of jobs in professional fields.

Grant burned it down 160 years early.

The one good thing about Sherman.

Living in Atlanta would never be a consideration for me just for the traffic alone.
Now, northern Ga. up around Suches, Helen, Dahlonega and that region are real nice areas of the state. I could get used to living there, especially since I love to ride my motorcycle in such areas for their scenic beauty and twisty roads.

i'd love to live right north of Atl but need nothing to do with actual atl.
I moved here about a year ago to the northern suburbs and maybe been to the actual city maybe 5-6 times and that’s only because I got tickets to a play at the Fox and a couple IKEA trips (trashy I know). I have everything need right here.

I hate even going to the ATL airport.

It's kind of like the New York of the South. It's a great place when you are young, single/dating, starting your career and burning the candle at both ends. But once you settle down, decide on a profession, get married and plan on buying a home and raising kids, then it's better to leave for someplace a little slower, safer, cheaper and more laid back.
In other words, do it in your 20s, then bolt. You can always come back to visit when you get a craving for a Braves game, an aquarium visit or some other big city activity.

Perspective from a guy in the northern suburbs for nearly 20 years:
PROS:
Weather/Scenery/Trees: Agree, I’d take an average temp that’s 5 degrees cooler year round but this works. Great for growing most things if you’re into gardening.
COL: No complaints.
Best airport in the world: I hate everything about going to Hartsfield but you can fly literally anywhere on the planet from there…so I guess?
Something for everyone: It’s obviously not LA/NYC but you can easily find things to do.
CONS:
Traffic does suck but you acclimate. You figure out the best times to do what. If you commute for work you just kinda deal with it.
Overrated food: Not sure I’ve heard people talk about “great Atlanta food” for it to be “overrated”. It’s definitely not NOLA but it’s not terrible either.
Sports teams: Agree, but I will say it has been cool living in a bit of a SEC/ACC melting point. Makes for fun office dynamics during football season.
Real Estate. Not great but it kind of sucks everywhere in the country. I think you could do a lot worse. Property taxes in most of the metro area are fine and homeowners insurance is relatively cheap since catastrophic stuff is rare (see bullet #1 under pros).
Demographics. I mean, just do your best to avoid living in the hood and you’re fine.

Airport thing is so conflicting.
ATL is a GREAT airport for its size and volume. I'd argue most very heavy business travelers would agree that ATL does really well with the task it has.
That doesn't mean it's pleasant to use overall, or the people are pleasant, but it operates pretty well. It's also not as good for locals as some big airports, and life in Atlanta would be better if we had a Love Field for the northern burbs.

How is life in Roswell, GA if you don’t have to commute into Atlanta?
Is the traffic only bad when commuting or is it just any time you go to Atlanta?
Or is it just everywhere, all over the burbs? That is how DC apparently is.

Tell us what makes it so great then. What separates it from other large cities?

That’s a fair assessment, and I agree. It’s impressive how many planes/materials/people
move through there everyday. We’re almost never seriously delayed, even flying in/out at night. They do a really good job.
I just hate the trip and hate going through because it’s so massive. I used to fly into Charlotte and Greensboro a lot for work…I’m a simple man and that’s more my speed.

I know that MARTA means something different than you think it does.

It's all relative. I operate just outside of the perimeter most days so it's great in my mind, but I'm from here so I'm contrasting it against my dad's 60-90 minute commute in and out of Buckhead for 45 years and my own experience battling core Atlanta traffic for years.
Roswell can be congested as can all of the close in burbs. Traffic is a way of life here, but if you can avoid the interstates/400 it's certainly much better.

Yeah, it seems to be missing the sort of locals airport that Houston and Dallas have.
I'm guessing Delta's clout there is a big reason you don't have something like that. Hell it took forever just to get Southwest to be able to fly into ATL.

I had to drive up to Marietta / Kennesaw twice in two days 2 weeks ago.
Traffic is insane. somehow I feel safer creeping along than flowing and having to deal with 2 guys racing by at 90 mph, though.

One security line. One. I loved when it wrapped around the luggage carousels, and out to the street for arrivals. And the constant stream of news stories and lawsuits about corruption about that place was more worthy of the entire NY/NJ Port Authority.

That's called Chattanooga. It probably would have been more efficient to drive to Nooga, and connect in ATL on Monday mornings from the burbs.
