Watching my son open his gifts on Christmas morning is always more than enough. This year I did buy myself a new guitar that is being delivered this week and I won't open it until Christmas but I would forego that if needed to see my family happy. My family always comes first.

there isn't really anything I want anymore that's not more than a couple grand. If there is something out there I wanted, I already bought it.

I struggle to give my family ideas.

I donated gifts to a nursing home and toy drive instead. I’m fortunate to buy myself what I want so I don’t need anything.

Nothing. I'm almost 34 years old I buy what I want for myself throughout the year. Shouldn't be my family's burden to figure out what to get me. Just thankful to have some time off at the end of the year.
i generally operate under that premise, but if it's in the fall and i want something that can wait, i'll let the family get them. i just recently found a pair of shoes i wanted cheaper than amazon and half off at the NB outlet store, so i just bought it and gave it to my wife to have the kids give them to me.
my problem is always that i say i want something and my wife will just get her version of what she thinks i want.
i.e.
i've had a garmin running watch for 5 years now. having to recharge every 3-4 days instead of 2 weeks. i asked for a new one.
what i want is:
what i found and deleted from her Amazon cart 2x:

An official Red Ryder, carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle, with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time.

Nothing. My parents aren't biting each time I try to suggest we don't do gifts. And as long as they insist on getting them for us, I'm not going to just not get anything for them. So we continue to participate in the completely unnecessary song and dance.
I bought a new dining set a month ago, which is 2 benches on the long sides of the table and two chairs on the ends. Used mom's credit card to get the end chairs (which I was going to buy anyway) and now they're wrapped at her house for another month while my table sits without end chairs.
It makes no sense!

I’ve been super sentimental about it lately. Every little song, interaction, I realize that my time with them as little ones, those magic years, are just about gone.
And I missed half of it right off the bat. God I wish I could go back and realize what I was gonna miss. Wish I could do something to get the time back. To remember those Christmas mornings more.
Now all I’ll have is little pictures, little ornaments they made.
Man, living 50/50 is hard sometimes, but I guess it’s only half bad. Because at least half the time I have my heart back.

I told the wife I didn’t want anything and that we should put money to a trip over Mardi Gras but if she insist there’s 1.5 lt Grand Cru Pomerol 2001 vintage at my local wine shop that Ive been wanting to cellar for a while.
