What do you tip at all inclusive resorts?

Was discussing with coworkers. All-inclusive resort where food and drink are included but you still have to tip. They mentioned how they didn’t adhere close to the “regular” rule of thumb of 20%. They would just tip a few dollars. I honestly don’t know what the answer is. When the wife and I went to an all inclusive resort last year, I assumed you still tipped at 20% for everything. So I racked up like $500-600 in tips throughout the week from the overpriced drink and food prices on the menu.
I’m just curious so I don’t make the same mistake next time if I don’t have to

Are you laughing at yourself because you are retarded?

Depends on the resort, the country, the owners etc. AFAIK you're not supposed to tip at most of them most of the time.
At Sandals for instance you can get employees fired if you tip and they don't refuse it and are caught. Except butlers. You can tip the butlers for whatever reason.

WTF is wrong with you.
I've stayed at these types of resorts a few times. You don't tip like that. Twice I tipped was b/c something was above and beyond.
Once, the waiter at a show was bringing us incredibly strong margaritas faster than anyone else was getting them. Gave him $20. He was elated.
Another $20 was for a good table at the 'fancy' restaurant on site.
Oh and $20 for the Snorkeling Guide.
$60 total.
You're dumb.

I didn't realize we were supposed to tip at all inclusive resorts.

You're not unless it's for something like I mentioned.
Maybe Room Service at 3am. I forgot I tipped the guy in Jamaica $5 for bringing me a pizza a 3am during a stormy night in Montego Bay.

Let me guess. $600 is probably a decent chunk out of your yearly household budget.
Thanks, you are confirming my theory from the other tipping thread.
Oh, and all-inclusive resorts are about as trashy as they come.

I only tip if I want a bartender to make me a drink that is decent. Most of the drinks were pretty weak at the one we went to, so I had to request the bartender to make them strong.

We went in September to Cancun. About a dollar a drink. I would go up to the bar and hand the guy a $20 to start the day. The quick easy food places, about $5. Nice places I gave $20.
It’s not a 20% kind of place because A there’s no bill so you don’t know the meal cost, and B our dollar goes a long way in these places. We went for 5 days and I spent about $200 in tips for 2 of us.

This. Have been to a few where management made it clear that they discourage tipping.
Went to one in Mexico last year and those folks were working hard for those tips.

If tip a few bucks here and there when getting drinks for bartenders.
Wait staff usually anywhere from $15-$20
Tip the maids same as a regular hotel for a long stay

You absolutely do if you want to get good drinks and fast. I would tip the bartender to start the day and he took care of us better than people who didn’t. Especially when it got really busy. He always looked to us first.

$1 a drink, $20 at dinner
On our honeymoon I tipped very well the first day and we were treated like royalty the rest of the time

Get $100 in ones before you go and tip a dollar or two for each round of drinks. It doesn't take much to distinguish yourself from the other mouth breathers.

Like I said. I gave the guy $20 and our next 4 rounds of drinks were top-notch and fast.
I'm just saying you don't tip on every drink, meal, service at these resorts b/c on average you're already paying $150-200 a day MORE than if not all-inclusive. And those employees are paid a good wage.

Nothing.
Scruffy’s tip is included.
It is all inclusive. Duh.

Scruffy gets his watered down drink last and will enjoy it being empty for 10 minutes when he’s done.
