I just get a Diet Coke if I'm out, or just water. If I'm going to a party I bring sparkling waters so I have something fun still.

As I get older I just don't drink as much, nothing from Sundays thru Wed (I know, big sacrifice). Sundays at the lake people are getting hammered, I walk around with a gatorade in my hand.

A family friend is bi-polar who doesn't drink. Everyone supports her.

Another friend just smokes a little weed but no booze ever.

At our age and in our social circles, nobody gives a shite.

You ever tried blow? It’ll sober you up if you decide you want to try drinking again and then decide it’s not for you that evening

I usually just drink water or NA beer. Most times people don’t even notice or care, but if they do notice they’re usually curious about why I don’t drink. People get uncomfortable getting hammered around a non-drinker.

Nothing.

I’ve cut back on the booze this year and have really enjoyed sanpellegrino with a lime. The lime spindrifts are a solid choice too. Crisp, refreshing, and carbonated.

I barely take a sip anymore and don’t miss it at all. I’ll slug ice water instead and make no bones about it.

And you’re sober?

The only people who notice are alcoholics. 4yrs sober in December and I am around drinkers all the time. I was SO concerned about what everyone would think, and quickly realized no one gives a shite except those looking to validate their own addiction.

La croix, spindrift, and NABs are everywhere these days. So I am usually chugging those.

I'm a recovering alcoholic of about 5 years and and often around other people who are drinking and frankly I'm blessed enough I don't do much thinking about it

I'm fully aware that it isn't nearly so easy for everyone else who has had issues or just for whatever reason chooses not to drink but the best suggestion I have is try drinking a "mocktail" (a lot of times I'll do cranberry with a splash of club soda and a lime). I'll say for myself before I tried it I would've brushed it off as a stupid idea but it honestly does trick the mind into thinking you are behaving just life everyone else. Honestly I think I have more fun bc it's just like the old days sitting around bullshiting with people but without all the stupid and dangerous shite I did once drunk

Finally I'll say in the last year I've started drinking NA beers on occasion and it has given me ZERO cravings for the real thing. NA beverages and beers are a rapidly growing market and gone are the days of ODeuls being your only option. Just off the top of my head Budweiser, corona, Guinness, Heineken, and Busch all have versions that taste just like the real thing. Usually found at Walmart/kroger/etc.

In some areas they even have non alcoholic whiskey, vodka, tequila, margaritas, and just really anything you can imagine that you can try but I have not tried any of those

If a setting makes you uncomfortable in any way regarding sobriety you absolutely should remove yourself from it

Enjoy my non-alcoholic drink and not so much focus on them, but focus on I will still feel good tomorrow.

I order these all the time. Love them! Especially when my wife orders a drink.
Life hack: look at a drink menu, anything with vodka, you can replace that with Sprite.

I don't think anything about it.

1. some people just don't drink even if they don't have any issues
2. some people are driving and have zero tolerance for drinking and driving (like me)
3. some people just don't want a drink at that particular moment
4. some people have potential work issues, my wife won't drink at all if she has cases or will be on call within 12 hours. Some surgeons aren't as monastic but I appreciate it.

I admire seeing someone who has kicked their demons enough they can be out with people drinking, it shows a success not a failure. I am also completely comfortable having tea, water, or a soft drink if I know they are still having to work at it. I have no issue with a tiny bit of inconvenience to make things a little easier for someone else. I usually do it quietly around someone I know is in the process of getting sober and will continue it until they explicitly tell me it is OK to drink.

Almost nobody cares if someone else drinks or not excect the assholes trying to pull you back down into the hole they are living in. Misery loves company. Get away from those people.

IDGAF. I know what alcohol is doing to my body and mind, it's a poison. If nothing else I'm impressed that somebody is making healthier choices.

There is absolutely no reason to drink other than that I want to. Any other reason I come up with is just a lame excuse trying to justify my weakness.
