What do you do when a store forgets to charge you for an item?

Went to lowes to pick up a few things. Spent a few hundred, some items on sale, and used a 10% off coupon so I didn't think anything of the price when i went to pay. On the way home I look at my receipt and the guy forgot to ring up an $80 item.
WWTOTD?
If I had noticed it at the store it would be one thing, but driving all the way back and inevitably getting the cashier in trouble seems like it's not helping anybody either.

If I catch it in the store, I tell them every time. If I notice after I leave, it depends on how much, where I am, etc.

If I catch it before I get to my car, I bring it back and pay for it. After the car, sucks.

I do what any normal and decent person would do. I bring it back to the store and settle up properly.

This is my rule. It the amount is so insignificant that it doesn't draw immediate attention when the total is computed and I don't discover it until I am home, then too bad - that's on them.
I have questioned the total a few times when it came up much less than I expected and the missing item was found, or else I discover my 'rounding errors' in adding things up is not too good.

This. In isolation, the right thing to do is let them know but if it imposes an excessive amount of time and trouble on you to fix their mistake, you no longer owe it to them.
Last thing I kept was about an extra hamburger I didn't order. If I'd looked in the bag when I was there I would have said something, but they can't expect me to clock out from work and fight downtown traffic to go over there. Especially since they can't sell it if I return it and it's not fair for me to pay for something I didn't want.
If it's a place I visit on a regular basis I settle up next time.

I roll. The rouses here in thib and Houma make panini's. You can check out at the deli, but I needed some joes. So I go to customer service. Grab chips and s drink plus the Marlboro. Put the brown bag with the sammich on the counter. She never catches it. Ten dollars for s complete lunch with cigarettes.

I got in a 10 minute "argument" with a cashier at Walgreens one time. I bought some vitamins that I realized were two for one. I only grabbed one and got charged the 2 for 1 price. I went back in and showed her and told her I'd just go grab a second bottle. She said she had to void the charge and rescan it for inventory. At the end of it, I didn't get charged anything and I had to explain over and over how she needed to charge me. I almost said screw it, thanked her and rolled out, but I felt bad because she obviously confused herself and I played a part in that. We finally got it figured out and she seemed grateful.

Had something similar at a Macy's...wife and I were buying a $400 Ralph Lauren comforter on sale for $200...item rang up for $28...I said something to cashier, wife was pissed, cashier deleted it, scanned it again, came up same price...she said that's all I can do, enjoy your comforter...

If you notice it in the store then make them aware of it and pay for it.
If you're already home then in my mind it's their mistake and the onus is on them to correctly ring up the order. My time is valuable as well as their merchandise.
In my experience the number of times I have caught cashiers overcharging and/or an item not ringing up at the posted price (always seems to be higher) is much more common.

My policy is to never look at the receipt. I just let the times I've been double charged or not charged enough to balance themselves out. Let the universe do it's job.

A Wal-mart cashier mistakenly put another customer's roast in our bag. We didn't notice until we got home. I called to let them know in case the customer also called to get his/her money back. The customer service person thanked me and actually asked if I could drive back and return the roast. I laughed and said no, sorry. No way I was getting back in the car, driving all the way back over, and returning a damn roast that had been inside my house. Buyer beware when buying meat from Wal-mart because you just never know where/whose house it might have come from.
