Be smart, go finish and get the degree.
That way, you won't be the first one run off.

I know exactly what you mean. I've been fortunate to get on with a company that does a lot of work outside of O&G so hopefully if shite were to hit the fan we would have work on the municipal side.

I do plan on finishing though, I only have 30 hours or so left.

Good deal, man.

Wasn't trying to be a dick at all, but I have many friends that have been through the cycles.

I've seen it happen multiple times as well, I know how it works. I also recognize the importance of a degree but I needed to get my shite together and going to work in the oilfield is how I accomplished that. I started out as a frickin water transfer hand, now I'm traveling the world pushing buttons.

Things are finally slowing down and I'm in a position where someone will pay me to finish.

When will people learn that income does not necessarily equal class because cost of living is different everywhere. Someone making $250,000/year in Ascension Parish is roughly equivalent to someone making over a million in New York City due to the cost of living being so much less in ruralish Louisiana. It's a sliding scale. Upper middle class is like the owner of a successful small business, an executive of a medium sized business, a successful doctor, dentist, or lawyer, ect.

poverty line is about $19k a year
average individual income is around 40k
average family income is about 80k
average household income around 70k
so upper middle class is probably around 100-120k per family/household income
upper middle for individual is probably around 65-70k

but yet there was a thread a while back asking what people on this board made a year and I would say over half claimed they made 150k plus per year...

It's all relative.

I don't think you can place a number on it, as the dollar goes farther in some parts of the country than in others and many people enjoy upper class lifestyles that they can't afford...thus look wealthier than they actually are.

80-100k middle class
120ish-150k upper middle
150-200k well off
200-300k upper class

Something close to these figures.

Those places (NYC, etc.) are the exception, not the rule. I lived in Manhattan and made almost $70k doing a job that paid me $13/hr in NOLA. I left because it still wasn't enough, which was due mostly to my immaturity, but the $12 packs of cigarettes and $10 slices didn't help.

You can put a number on it. But that figure isn't a dollar amount, it's a percent. Mostly dependent on the cost of living in your area. If the median family income in your area is $28k/yr and your household brings in $90k/yr, chances are (depending on your debt) you are borderline upper middle. If you live in California in an area where your family makes $120k per year but the median is $85k, well, you're probably not living on the cusp of luxury.

Well income disparity in the US is a whole different conversation. I was looking at it from a purely statistical standpoint, calling "middle" class the actual middle.
