I at least deleted the part with the stick figure family on the Tahoe.
We do this thread like 3 times a year, and like slack said, it's filled with people raised upper class who think it's middle class.

which would make your argument even worse
family of 4 being able to afford $350k "mcmansion" and a $70k Tahoe but somehow isn't even middle class?
what ridiculous reality are we in right now?

Every single post of yours in this thread drips of greed and envy.
Maybe try focusing on your own life instead of being perpetually butthurt about those more successful than you?
It's at the root of all things Democratic Socialist. Envy and greed.

Did your parents have a 1000 dollar computer in their hands at all times that also cost 100/month per? For most families of 4, this is a 4k investment yearly at a minimum. Did your parents have cable that cost 100/month? Internet that cost $75 or so? There is another $2500 or so. What about Netflix, Hulu, etc?? Did they drive a 50k plus vehicle? Hell did they even have 2 vehicles? Did they go get a new one every 4-5 years?? frick no!!! Did they live in a 2000+ square foot house??? Most didn't. Even families of 4 didn't. 2500 used to be consider rather large, now it's a starting point for many middle house families. Did they have iPads, TV in every room? Go to dinner 3-4 times a week?
Freaking hit the nail on the head.

Should I just shut my mouth and act dumb and happy because we're doing pretty well or should I recognize that we would have it a WHOLE lot better if we were born 40 years earlier?

Everyone wants to be blue collar. It's practically romanticized.
It's such a weird dynamic.

Literally none of that applied to me. My health insurance kicks arse, I got multiple raises and a promotion, and my future is extremely bright.
Same here. There are a lot of things that come into play. The most important factors are:
Industry / field
Employer
For me, my car allowance was increased by 1K annually and I received a 5K annual raise. I work in sales (salary & commission) and historically, salary increases to sales guys are rare. Actually, everyone at my office got raises. We're a distributor of about 5 building products used in the commercial and residential markets. 50 yr old debt free company, locally owned, and employees approx 500 people with 30 locations across the Southeast.
No issues with my health insurance.

Not really. Being aggrieved or oppressed is a mark of privilege in this country this day and age.
I'm not upper class, I'm middle class! See how hard I have it compared to the rich?!
Meanwhile the "poor" in this country are rolling their eyes.
Of course then the actual poor in the world are rolling their eyes out our "poor."
It's all relative.

I think it's a combo of wanting to feel like they work hard and feel important when people talk about middle America.

I guess I just find the contrast between people keeping up with the Joneses while trying to say they're middle class to be weird.

I mean I get what you're saying, but let's not act like financing a phone for 0% is some great financial wizardry and missed opportunity cost.
Most people aren't taking that $1100 and immediately investing it in something else that improves their overall wealth. Instead most people will decide to upgrade to leather in their also 0% financed new $50k vehicle.

the poor have it pretty good in this country, I see real extreme poverty in a lot of the places that I travel to for work, I don't think many in the US know what real poverty is

How is life easier, but people are working more than ever. Americans work more hours than citizens of every other industrialized country. They also take less vacation, have less leisure time, and retire later than everyone else as well.
Even with all the advances in technology and automation Americans are working more than ever just to afford what was once easily attainable.
As the standard of living increases it has become harder to stay in the middle. Far less people are in the middle. Half of Americans make 31k or less.
It's not sustainable.
When the America was truly great CEOs at the top 350 companies in country earned 30 times more than the average worker.
Meaning that if the average worker earned 50k then the CEO would earn 1.5 million. Now the average worker makes 50k and the CEO earns 15 million. 300 times more than the average worker is excessive. I'm not talking about CEOs that built it from the ground up and went public like Bezos or Zuckerberg. I'm talking glorified baby sitters.
Even though workers are more productive than ever wages are close to flat even though we are close to full employment.
Middle class people can't even afford to procreate. While the government incentivises poor people to have more kids for more benefits.
Corporate Welfare is out of control. The loss of tax revenue from those breaks just gets passed on to the middle class as well.
100% Agree with everything you said except this:
