How do most people function when you cannot find the remote control nowadays since in the infinite wisdom of TV manufacturers and cable box providers there almost no buttons on the TV or box that change the channel?

When I was a kid I was the remote. Wasn't a fan.
First VCR, not VHS/Beta btw, had a corded remote.
Which was cool. Til the dog chewed it up.
