I've beeb watching this guys videos. He travels the country showing off his inventions. Uses solar to power magnetrons that get the oil back out if plastic. Claims his diesel is cleaner than pump diesel and his gas is over 100 octane.
What i don't get is if true why isn't this being done on a larger scale?

It has been done for decades.

Far too expensive to do at any kind of scale compared to traditional gasoline.

Energy gained is lower than energy expended

My thoughts would be to roll this out at scale once we have nuclear fusion and start recycling landfills.

Doesn't deserve much consideration

What else can we do with plastic waste? Keep burying it?
He's powering his reactor with solar.

Imagine an entire Power plant buring natural gas to recharge one electric car.

It isn't to that level but that is the gist. He can harness a lot of solar to refine a little plastic.

Is this the young king that keeps showing up on Instagram when the algorithm accidentally feeds me hotep content?

First of all he didn’t invent it the concept has been around for more than 30 years second of all it’s really inefficient because you gotta heat it up really really hot

Oil is an unlimited resource. It just comes out the ground. Look up abiotic oil theory

I mean technically they can melt it down to something else and use it over and over again but that is also really inefficient because you have to sort it, ship it, then melt it

The most efficient disposal would be a high heat burner in every house that you could put trash in that wasn’t glass

Someone on here did that for fun. It wasn't worthwhile for saving money.

Where I live, the city recycles every type of plastic. They have to be sending it to somebody for some reason. Even those ugly plastic Walmart bags are taken.

I wonder if the energy losses are worth the volume reduction of converting a waste product into another usable resource?

Because it isn't true, just a scammer thst fleeces the local community for donations. What he's doing is no different than the video of people in India operating big chambers to pyrolyze old tires and plastic waste, he may not be buring scrap wood and plastics to produce the heat needed but he's inputting way more energy than he's getting in return and damn sure isn't running it off his PV array like he claims. If it was a truly viable method for recycling plastics then it would be in widespread use, but it's an engery-intensivr process that requires very clean feedstocks to make anything suitable and you are still left with solid waste that needs to be dealt with.

I wonder what level of VOCs are being generated by this.

No, plastic (like glass and paper) loses its mechanical properties when recycled. It has limited use as a feedstock for recycling, unlike metals which are infinitely recyclable.
