Drove a rental one a couple of weeks ago. It was brand new. I thought it drove good and liked it fine but the rear column was a bigger blind spot than I expected.

Would be ok to send my kids to college in.

I know you will break down in 6 months. Have you not seen how bad Fiat Corp is and that Jeeps are not reliable

I guess my '14 JGC is somehow a miracle baby then.

Spend a couple grand more and get the Grand Cherokee.

I have one. Work vehicle. Can't stand it. I'm not a woman.
I expect it to break down on my before i have to turn it in at 60k miles b/c it's a piece of shite jeep. It's like driving a go kart with the pickup it has. My piece of shite ford fusion gave me troubles as well before i had to turn it in. I think my fusion had more room in the back seat than the cherokee.
I'd never buy a ford car or a jeep anything with my own money.
Spend a few grand more and get a Rav4 and have the piece of mind statistics are on your side that your vehicle will last longer and retain it's value better.

Slightly off-topic here OP, but Jeep's new 2017 Compass looks pretty slick to me. Here's the Limited trim (would be ~30k):

Smaller than the Cherokee, so gets a little better gas mileage, and early reviews seem promising
