I'll say this--- the fricking 8.4" nav system is shitty. NO CarPlay, NO voice-to-text if you're using an iPhone, and everything is only displayed on the center dash screen and not on the instrument panel screen

I think 2017's have voice to text, and as you mentioned I heard some rumblings about CarPlay, but doubt it happens.

I wouldn't say those two issues make it a shitty system though. Pretty minor IMO. The system is quick/respsonsive and does anything else you'd expect with few glitches - that honestly can't be said for many other brands (Ford and Jaguar, to name a couple).

The cherokee's main downfall is the 9 speed transmission and power if you opt for the four cylinder engine.

Make sure you get the v6 no matter what. Don't believe me? Try them both?

I wish it were so, but they don't. The best you can do it to workaround it by telling Siri directly what to type and telling her to send it, but you'll get no display of your text on the 8.4" screen nor the instrument cluster screen.

And really, if you take navigation and texting features away from a system you're left with a big fancy XM radio (and that's about it). Even the apps like Yelp and such require you to continue to pay uConnect for their service if you want them to work past your trial period.

Like I said, these such things don't overly concern me, but my mother bought one recently too and has said that she'll never again buy a car with so little digital offerings (and that doesn't have CarPlay).

To each his own.

It's ugly as sin, and jeeps post 2000 are not very good cars.

Jeep that is neither a Wrangler nor a Grand Cherokee is a pass for me. Sorry. Just too much bad impression to overcome.

I've got to ask - why do a brand new one of these versus a slightly used grand Cherokee?

Eh, you're not getting a slightly used Grand Cherokee for 21k, at least by my definitions.

More like a pretty stock 2015 with 40k+ miles, and that would probably be a stretch for under 25k.

I'd take that over a brand new whatever the OP posted. But that's just me.

I have a GC so I'm probably with you, I just assume OP wouldn't be interested in that hideous looking thing if he was more aligned with our position

But I don't need a four-wheel drive vehicle with a V8 engine. Plus, those blacked out rims are trashy AF.

I don't own a boat, and have nothing to haul or tow.

Agreed to an extent. The 8.4" gets good reviews from most users and auto publications bc it works, it's intuitive, and it has redundant controls on the dash. That's mainly what makes it a great system. Of course I'm sure there are some exceptions. I know the system in my moms Jaguar is terrible. Can never find anything, it's slow to respond, and everything is controlled through the touch screen which is a PITA when driving.

Then get a minivan. Why try to look like you do all of the things you mentioned and sacrifice practicality? If you have kids or are planning to, and do not need all of these things, it's hard to beat a minivan.

I am not trying to look like I have a boat, mud ride, or climb rocks or some other stupid shite like that. Furthermore, I neither have kids, nor am I planning on having them anytime soon.

The largest thing I'll carry in the SUV I eventually purchase, regularly, will be my golf clubs. Sometimes, I have to transport a few boxes of files for work. Otherwise, I have no practical, utilitarian uses for an SUV. I do specifically like the ground clearance.

Damn man, can't I just like SUVs?

It's a Jeep. Stay away.

No way in hell would I buy a new Jeep. I'd only buy a dirt cheap one (~$1,500) as a beater car.

Spend the extra money and buy yourself a Toyota 4 Runner. You'll probably end up spending 10 grand in repairs on that $21,000 Jeep. I learned the hard way getting rid of my old reliable Tacoma in favor of a Ram. Chrysler is junk.
