I can tell you that in Louisiana it's not for traveling at a slow speed in the left lane.

Majority of the time, they get pulled over for a money grab by the state DOT enforcement wankers. It's 100% money grab

I watch them let shitheads in trucks, with pallets 12 feet high, swinging and swaying, all tail lights out, etc while they pull over a diesel tractor trailer, who just pulled out of the lot, with plates and insurance to boot.

The fines for big rig offenses are sometimes tripled compared to a normal vehicle. 100% money grab to pay for those DOT officers and vehicles.

They can do random inspections at any time. The state police would set up shop outside our heavy equipment yard and as soon as the trucks hit the pavement they would get pulled over.

My dad runs logistics for hazardous materials at his plant. His drivers get stopped by DPS all the time for random checks. If they have one infraction it’s a MASSIVE fine. I’m not super familiar with the regulations, but I believe loaded down with certain chemicals you can only drive during certain times, etc.

Usually it’s for lights or missing mudflaps. I used to work for a transportation company and never heard of trucks getting randomly pulled over for weight. Drivers get slips from weigh stations and don’t just skip stops on the road

There was new regulation put in place back in December that requires all of them to now have ELDs (electronic logging devices) so they can no longer fudge their log books.

not even close to true

I used to “find hours” all the time if a driver was running low on duty hours and had a time sensitive load. You will find a basketball cut in half and painted white in the highest earners cabs.

Also, random spot checks are a joke.

You will wait at least an hour 15mins for them to be done, and that's if they aren't checking everything. I've been spot checked 3 times, and not one time had anything wrong, hell 2 times i was in a brand new box truck, and it took 1 hour and 45 mins for them to make me wait.

shite is asinine.

bullshite mostly. All trucks even brand new off the lot will have something that's not "legal". Most of the time is some kinda air leak of something minor but troopers have Lil dicks and have to make up the difference with a huge thick ticket book! Ole Wild Bill on HWY 30 between Tanger and St. Gabrial don't let shite slid! You drive by him in an "18" wheeler or Dump Truck...your getting a ticket!

ELD's are in place, I'm sure some drivers will find some ways to cheat some but nothing like they have been. That is unless they drive a truck older than a 2001 since they're exempt.

Nah... Wild Bill has his turf marked pretty good. I've only seen him and one other guy out there but Wild Bill hogs all the action. They normally hang out between Reagent Chemicals and Lion Copolymer off Hwy 30 where LC has that turnaround right outside of their entrance.

You can put it over the satellite receiver on a truck which makes the hours list as “off duty.” A driver can then change the driving/on duty hours to show as legal on their equipment
