It definitely isn’t from passing another truck by going 1/2 mph faster.

Improper lane usage.

Most of them have a no clue how to drive.

I can tell you that in Louisiana it's not for traveling at a slow speed in the left lane.

It's universal. Nobody expects truck drivers to understand lane discipline.

Majority of the time, they get pulled over for a money grab by the state DOT enforcement wankers. It's 100% money grab

My father owns about 7 trucks and this is pretty much the gist of it.

When you get pulled over they are checking for everything and they will NOT let you go until they find a violation to write you a ticket for.

My father has had troopers hold a truck of his on the side of the road for a couple of hours looking for a something to write a ticket for.

For instance, a crack in a headlight is a fine. A a light leak around a wheel hub is a fine. He purchased a used truck once that had fog lights mounted to bottom of the front bumper, but the previous owner never wired them up. That truck was pulled over for a random inspection and he was fined a couple of hundred dollars for non working equipment.

When it comes to lights, if you have them they better work regardless if you will ever use them.

It's a bullshite racket by the LSP and the State. There are some legit things that you should be fined for, however no truck will ever leave the side of the road without a ticket. They will "find" something to issue a fine.

Hell, my dad would have a DOT Trooper he was friends with come over to the house periodically whenever he purchased a new truck or trailer to have it looked over. Fred could comb over the equipment, tell us what needs to be addressed and we would fix it. He would come back and give us the ok and a few days later, another DOT guy would pull the damn thing over and write a ticket for the littlest thing.

Fred told us that you could take a brand new truck and trailer, have it factory certified by the manufacturers there were no violations and the state would find something wrong.

Imagine if they did this to regular car drives like they do to big rigs, Baton Rouge would be on fire from the pissed off citizenry.

The truck speed over the basin is 55 and they're restricted to the right lane but I've never seen an 18 wheeler pulled over there. Most go 65 and pass all day.

The LSP knows that if the semis do 55 while every car does 65-70, that the slow moving trucks actually are impeding traffic and making the situation more dangerous.

This right here is bullshite. I've been driving for 13 years and can count on 1 hand how many times I've had an infraction from a safety check.

Some DOT officers are dick's and will find something, but I've found if a driver approaches him with respect and not be a dick back they will lighten up.

As far ELD they are only mandate in trucks with engined made after 2001. Glider kits are more popular than ever now. A glider is a truck ordered with no engine then the buyer has a pre 01 engine dropped in
