Im watching how the levees broke and wondering why New Orleans was even built. Its below sea level and seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

What do you think about Katrina and New Orleans as a whole?

I was just beginning my professional career.

I learned that when shite truly hits the fan, you can’t depend on the government for shite.

It made perfect sense at the beginning of the 18th Century. As for its future going forward, I'll just leave that alone. And the biggest problem isn't geography or sea level.

That society as you know it has a shelf life of 3 maybe 4 days once you lose water, power, and cell phone coverage.

The oldest parts of the city are not below sea level, these areas did not flood during Katrina.
Back in the 1700s they never imagined people would develop and try to live in the areas outside of town which were swamps and marshes below sea level.

Also, it is possible to have urban areas below sea level with little treat of flooding, see the Dutch. They’ve been reclaiming land from the sea for centuries. You just have to be smart about it and you have to take maintenance of dams seriously.

That with chaos all around, the need for beer is still something we can all agree on.

Such an original topic. Educate yo' self

As for what I learned from Katrina? The truth in the statement that society is only three meals away from anarchy.

That most people will come together for the good of our community while others deserve to die a fiery death

I also learned that thousands of people should not be allowed to have pets. How anyone can leave their dog behind during a hurricane is incomprehensible to me.

I live where Katrina actually hit, and I learned material things don’t like to be soaked in salt water.
