Steer to the money. There are numerous lists of jobs and salaries. Print them out and have a serious discussion about what kind of lifestyle your student would consider acceptable. Based on that lifestyle cut then have student review the job content for personnel interest in a field. If the student still wants to be an eastern studies professional, let the student pay for the degree. If the student want to be a civil engineer or nurse, you pay for the degree

Architecture. Wish I'd been good enough for it. But no, I had to drop out of the accelerated math track in high school because I failed geometry because I spent the whole class designing skyscrapers in my notebook. (True story.)

And those people need bosses who can grasp the technical aspects of the work but also manage people.

I have one child at LaTech completing his 2nd year as a cyberengineer
Dude just got an internship with the USAF Cyberwarfare Command.
My other son is just as smart but doesn't take his education seriously. He will be steered towards a career outside of college until he matures more. I had the same issue, joined the military and later got my degree at age 30.

The nurses have inherited the world. Otherwise finance or economics.

in 2 years, said child is going to have to turn down more jobs than most college grads get offers from

Computer Science with an MBA. Interesting thing about coding is you can work in any vertical. However, You’ll make much more money if you understand business. I find most younger technology professionals Come in thinking they’re in the technology business not realizing they’re really in healthcare, construction, aerospace, etc.

Looked at that program and that's one of the better ones I've run across outside of the big boys like MIT, John Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, etc.
A bit light on the actual cybersecurity side of the house though. But he's getting a damn good foundation to build on. The baws he'll work with in that internship will be able to point him in the right direction in terms of what skills he needs to pick up outside his degree.

Accounting opens a lot of possibilities in the business world. Hell, the FBI hires a lot of accountants to work as investigators.
Health Care is something all of us will always need.

It's still damn hard to find a junior level analyst with the requisite skill base to even train up. For kids like his, they're going to be able to name their job location and salary.
His kid is in a pretty good program. However there are waaaaaaay too many "cybersecurity" degree programs out there that are utter shite.

They should study what love, and do it well. College is for an education, not a Vo-tech degree.

That's what I'm hoping.
He's currently breaking into WAPs and learning how to build "Man in the Middle" data capture techniques using various exploits.
