i would love to buy a frame off fully restored square body with LS engine and injection and that would cost you less then a new silverado POS with 57 recalls before you even leave the dealership with it

That was the model of my first truck. I wish I'd kept it. It was no frills with vinyl seats, a metal roof and a 2 knob radio but there also wasn't much to break on it either.

Reagans protectionism was part of the problem, I disagreed with him on those.

That's how we ended up with the luxury Japanese market.

The other issue was the insane limits Congress put on U.S. auto manufacturers in the late 70s under Carter. They gave them five years max to get mpg up and so they had to divert money from quality control and R&D (aesthetics) in orders to meet the new federal laws for fuel efficiency and emissions. The Japanese already had this down so they pumped money into those other two areas and surged ahead of US autos. We still haven't caught up.

IMHO, these are two of the best looking cars ever made - both from the 80s.....

Got to be the 80s, right?

The Gremlin was 1970-1978. The Pinto was 1971 to 1980. Gotta go with the 70's.

This decade

One of my neighbor's kids had a birthday last weekend and there were probably 15-20 cars parked on the street. I mentioned to my wife that all but 3 or 4 were some type of "crossover SUV" and they all looked pretty much the same to me.

As much as I love the 80s, cars from that decade are not one of the reasons.

If you think a Ferrari 308/328 is ugly, you have mental health issues.

80s. A lot about the 80s was just wrong. Hard to follow up the 60s and then 70s, so it’s understandable.

With obvious exceptions to the rule (mostly SUVs and trucks) the look/style of the average consumer car in the mid to late 70s through the early 90s is the lowest point in automotive history. There are a stunning amount of cringeworthy body styles of vehicles in that time period that I dont think can be topped. Sure some of the plastic toys on the road today are bad but it still pales in comparison to the overall "style".

1990's Ford, GM, and Chrysler cars had the shittiest interiors of any vehicles in history.

The 74-78 generation Mustang was a massive pile of shite.

This over something from the mid 80's on?
