They don't waste space. Rather than leaving chairs between the people next to them, they are orderly and use up all the chairs.
Makes sense in many ways. Maybe we as Americans are so used to excess space. Of course the that argument invalidates everything I said before and I typed to much to just not submit now.

Mexicans don't have much of a concept of personal space. When I'm checking out at the grocery store, they feel the need to stand 18 inches behind me while I'm trying to pay.

There is an older secretary in my office who is the nicest person in the world. But, she is a space invader/close talker, and I am always backing up and kind of pushing her away. Is that an Italian thing?

There's a guy that works in our shop that talks so close I have to turn sideways to get him out of my face. He can't take a hint either because whenever I turn, he walks around and gets in my face again. Anytime I have a conversation with him, I basically stand there and turn circles 90 degrees at a time.
To top it off, he has a nub where his right index finger used to be. Whenever he illustrates a point, he uses the nub to do it. He's got nine other digits but he chooses the one that's only half there.

Sometimes I have to double check that I'm not actually in Moscow, it's annoying as hell.

Asians are the worst for me. They get chin-whisker close.
When I was in London for the Olympics, it was crowded, but everyone seemed to move fine. Until the group of Asians came walking toward you. I'm like an Asian magnet apparently, because I'd make a turn to avoid them well in advance, and they'd instinctively turn the same (or opposite) way. At least 5 times, I found myself somehow surrounded by whole groups. As in somehow the group had formed a circle around me.
By the end of the trip, I'd tell my wife, "Oh great, here comes some Asians. Watch." And sure enough, it'd come to an impasse. I'd just stop raise my hands and wait for the little hoard to move along to the next unsuspecting whitey.
I still get it even when it's not crowded and there is just one coming toward. No matter what, their head will land right in my chest. I'm getting irritated just thinking about.
