I went on a Tower of London tour, led by a Yeoman. We were stopped as he was explaining something to the group. I was in the middle of the crowd and ensured my bubble in front of me - about 3 feet. This Asian lady was basically was practically breathing down my neck right behind me. So I took a step forward to give myself some space behind me. She stepped right with me. So I took another step forward, leaving me in foot of bubble in front, and she again stepped right with me. So I just turned around and made my way to the back of the group so I could get my bubble back. I couldn't understand her complete lack of respect of my personal space.

I was shopping with my wife the other day and a woman was doing this to her while we were checking out. They were the only two people in line and my wife was at the counter in a clothing stor. Huge area behind them and the lady had my wife pinned against the counter . I didn't know if my wife realized how close she was, but I tried my hardest to not get her to notice. I was hoping she'd turn around and bump the lady, or the lady would scare the ship out of her. Turns out the lady was so close she could tell where she was without looking, so no entertainment for me.
My Spanish teacher in high school (Hispanic) told us that Americans require more space than what she was raised with.

Vietnamese people. Whether it be on the road, in church, in a grocery store, on a sidewalk. They simply just get in people's way, but they don't even realize it.

Hispanic people culturally tend to be close talkers. their comfortable talking space is around 18", while ours is 36" or more.

Personal space is very much so an English phenomenon, so it is much more so respected in former commonwealth nations than elsewhere.

I had an Arab professor (banking class) and I used to get spat from that guy because he'd stand right in front of us that sat in the front of class.
Luckily, I sat closer to the wall and was spared from most of it and got a good view of those sitting at the front and center getting pelted with spit.

When personal space is violated I usually openly sate that I have really bad flatulence or have a bacterial infection easily transferred to others. They leave.......
