The freedom of movement you get from a US Passport is unrivaled, it's accepted by pretty much every country on Earth with the exception of places like N. Korea. Aside from that, US citizenship and the protection it grants you abroad is extremely valuable.
You say you don't need your US citizenship anymore, why don't you just become naturalized and pay taxes in whatever country you decide to live in? Also, you're not paying taxes on earned income up to a certain threshold if you remain outside of the US for a certain period of consecutive time.

Because I'm considering living overseas as an individual and not supported by an international company. I'm only weighing options.

you can prove an ancestor was an Italian citizen and never denounced their citizenship before a certain date, I want to say ~1920, you're entitled to Italian citizenship.
A Brazilian buddy of mine just moved from Brazil to Italy and got his citizenship pretty easily in Italy. I think he went this route.

Then your best bet is getting citizenship in an EU country. An EU Passport is the only thing that comes close.

Blue passports are not as prestigious as they were 10 years ago.

It's called jure sanguinis, Wiki breaks it down pretty well.

Ahhhh. Gotcha. I pondered never coming back also, but never would give up citizenship, thus I'm back.

US government fricked us over in 2010 when they passed FBAR. Look at the trend of US citizens giving up their citizenship since then.

Why can't you have two passports? I know people that have both Nigerian and US passports.
Anyway what about Africa? Ghana? Nigeria?

You can have two passports, but you need dual-citizenship first.

If you have 2 Jewish Grandparents, you're eligible for Israeli citizenship. If you're under 26, you can also get a free summer trip there via the Return Program.

Doesn't it have to come from the maternal line?

Are you referring to Sicily as a country?
No, I should have put Italy, but I was referring only to Sicily as this program is only in Sicily. Sicily actually operates more autonomously than other Italian areas. Of all the states that unified into Italy, Sicily was the one who went kicking and screaming. The reaction to Sicily by the nation of italy led to intense interstate sanctions and created a huge black market, those that created that black market became the modern mafia. In my statement it was easier to just say Sicily instead of saying the "Autonomous region of Sicily in the Italian Republic".

A place that can issue visas?
Italy can issue visas, Sicily can say that you are a resident alien in good working status within their area.
A lot of time on a minute point.

Dude, don't give up your U.S. citizenship. Make sure you chose a country where you can hold duel citizenship. You never know if and when you may want to come back. I thought I wouldn't come back but I did.

Thanks for the link. Skimmed it quickly and definitely need to read and learn more about it because I didn't see what you said. My great grandmother was born in Sicily and I would love to get dual citizenship if it were possible. She became a citizen of the USA in the early 1900's though. I want to be able to stay in Europe for longer than 90 days in a 6 month period. At some point I could see wanting to live in Italy, Spain, or other countries in Europe. At minimum living and traveling through Europe for a couple years straight.
