the second picture is the original picture. the first picture is edited.
Edited to show the real color.
The extreme back lighting makes the dress appear much lighter than it is.

I saw white then I tilted my laptop back.
I see where you are coming from when you tilt it, but also when you do this, it makes the OT left menu bar black and the background behind TIGERDROPPINGS.COM appear black. So does that mean that the menu and background are not purple?

your comparison to a photo/still frame of a movie filmed intentionally in black and white is not even remotely the same as how someone views this dress. The issue is the photo is either a)over exposed or b) under exposed and some people's brain corrects it one way and others another.
everyone sees a black and white film as black and white

It's something to do with your eyes and the lighting on the dress. I saw the original as white and gold. Now I see of as black and blue. When I see them posted again, they are white and gold and just change before my eyes. It's something with the lighting of the dress and your eyes not adjusting. It's something that needs to go on brain games

My point is that, just because we know the color of something, it doesn't mean the picture of that object will be the same. Lighting/photoshop etc can all cause it to appear differently

No it's not. The one in the op is white and gold others that are black and blue actually look black and blue. Doesn't matter how you change the lighting on your screen or move it back or forward.

It finally looked black and blue to my wife. And then i was able to get it to switch before my eyes between black/blue and white/gold.
In summation, anyone calling anyone else stupid/colorblind/insane, is an idiot that doesn't understand vision and the brain. There was no right or wrong answer, what you see is right.

yes, I know. But to those who see the same dress, it just looks like a shittier quality picture of the same dress. And it only causes it to appear differently to different people because some people's vision corrects itself differently when looking at something either under or over exposed
