Was talking to a buddy and without a doubt in my mind it’s Richmond with the close second contender in Montgomery. He said Atlanta and that I was stuck in the past. In your mind what is the official capital of the South?

LOL - In the 19th century: Richmond then Montgomery

Now? It's without question Atlanta

Definitely Atlanta or Nashville.

There really isn't too much "Southern" in terms of culture, lifestyle, architecture, demeanor, and so forth in Nashville. You get it more in the surrounding counties, but not in Davidson County.

Memphis, on the other hand, is an appropriate choice.

Houston.

Not coincidentally it’s the cultural capital of America as a whole as well.

New Orleans is the cultural hub of the south followed by Savannah and Charleston. Biloxi is the Atlantic City and OBA is the jersey shore. Atlanta and Nashville are the commerce hubs with very little culture but billions of dollars going through daily. Florida panhandle is simply Beirut. Everything else is Cleveland.

New Orleans for culcha .

FIFY

Charleston is the culture capital.

Also, to all of those claiming it HAS to be Atlanta due to its economic supremacy, just remember that if that were the only factor NYC would still be the national capital.
