Imo it's Atlanta.

The four largest metros in the geographic South are Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Miami. I think when most people say "south" they mean the southeast, which excludes Texas, and Miami is not culturally southern. That leaves Atlanta.

It is large, centrally located, and a major hub for business, transportation, and culture. It has the most broadly popular pro team in the southeast in the Atlanta Braves. It is a center of music and film. Huge corporations like Delta, Home Depot, UPS, and Coke are headquartered there.

You could argue for a place like Nola or Charleston because of history and culture, but I think in 2019 Atlanta is just more relevant.

Houston and Atlanta are the two magnetic poles of the South. I'm sure people will say that Houston is not the South, but those people are wrong.

You guys heard of the 11 American nations study? Houston is most certainly part of the Deep South from a linguistic and cultural perspective.

Again -- the South gravitates toward Houston and Atlanta. The two poles of the South.

Are you speaking geographically, if not how is Houston more southern than say, New Orleans?

Spent enough time there to know the US-59 corridor in east Texas is definitely south.
