Streets and road ways are not for bicycles, electric or otherwise.

It's as simple as that.

The scourge in my neighborhood isn’t the e-bikes. It’s electric dirt bikes that aren’t street legal in my county. These things are fast AF and im dreading the day I witness some poor kid get into a horrible accident while im taking a walk.

Kids too young to legally drive are always tooling around on dirt bikes on my street.

I was going to give my old man rant on one a couple of days ago, but I have new neighbors who were outside.

Didn't want to alarm them yet that they have a crazy person living across the street.

As of 2026, Louisiana law generally treats compliant electric bicycles (e-bikes) the same as traditional bicycles, allowing them to use roads, bike lanes, and paths without requiring registration, insurance, or a driver’s license. The state officially recognizes a three-tiered classification system for e-bikes.
Class 1 Pedal-assist only, max speed 20 mph
Class 2 Throttle-assisted, max speed 20 mph
Class 3 Pedal-assist only, max speed 28 mph

Rules of the Road: E-bikes are treated as bicycles, meaning riders must follow standard traffic laws (e.g., stop signs, traffic signals).

Helmets: A helmet is required for all operators and passengers of Class 3 e-bikes, and strongly recommended for others.

Age Limits: Riders of Class 3 e-bikes must be at least 16 years old, unless it is designed for passengers.

Speed & Power: Motors are restricted to a maximum of 750 watts.

Path Restrictions: E-bikes are allowed on bicycle/multi-use paths, though local authorities can restrict Class 3 bikes on certain trails.

Sidewalks: Generally, e-bikes should stay off sidewalks unless explicitly permitted by local ordinance.

Modifications: Modifying an e-bike to exceed 28 mph or operate above 750 watts may cause it to be reclassified as a motorized bicycle or moped, requiring license, registration, and insurance.

Local Rules: Local municipalities and agencies can further regulate or prohibit e-bike use on specific trails or park paths

Considering your rebuttal.....you seem really intelligent as well. Maybe you should ride a bike in traffic. Get your new dad to take the training wheels off first skippy.

It’s not as simple as that…..In Louisiana bicycles are legally classified as vehicles.

They are prohibited from interstates in Louisiana.

In New Orleans the city ordinance (not enforced) is that anyone over the age of 15 may not ride on a sidewalk.

To answer your question “what is to be done” get your state rep to care about this issue.

I have a Qlife Spark. My kids want to ride it all the time. I originally had unlocked the motor to 42mph to ride around a tract of land we own, but it’s so crazy fast I dont trust them. The pedal assist on lvl 5 is insane on the takeoff. I keep the speed code under lock and key so they can’t ride it full bore.

Of course. But for the most part, I don't want to be on a street that has red lights. That is too much traffic.

I have the iscooter DX5 Pro.

I paid for the Pro version after riding my nephews original DX5.

It will hit 38, 39 MPH almost instantly if you tuck your knees in and put your head down. That's without hacking it or unlocking anything.

No kids. So I don't have to worry about the speed.

It's awesome on all kinds of terrain. Can wheelie it too. Best purchase this year so far!
