What can be done about the scourge of E-Bikers?

More and more often I'm seeing these jack holes riding down the middle of streets and highways.
You're not a automobile, you're not a motorcycle. You're most of the time incapable of even achieving and maintain the posted speed limit.
Get off of the street and stop holding up people trying to reach their destination.
The whole "giv'em 3 feet" campaign has been an abject failure and only succeeded in making most regular bicyclist and now the E-bikers total inconsiderate arse holes who now believe the roads are primarily for their use only.
/rant.
DV away.

I ride human-powered bikes, which means I am in the bike shop a fair amount.
My bike guy says his insurer will not let him work on ebikes because of liability concerns.
FTR, I do not get in the way of auto traffic. I use back streets, and I just stay clear. I asbolutely follow all traffic rules. While I agree some bikers are inconsiderate assholes ("We are Traffic!"), it ain't all of us.

I got an e-bike a few months ago and I absolutely love it. But I'm also not an inconsiderate a-hole and only ride it where I'm supposed to.
But it's gotten me out and riding bikes with my son (6) now, and we love doing that together. I'll also take him riding around places sometimes and he loves that. We've been to LSU and rode around for hours, the abandoned Dumas golf course in Baker (the cart path is still there), etc.
I highly recommend one...just only ride it where bikes are supposed to be and still obey all traffic laws (which is definitely a problem with e-bikers as well as regular bikers).

It's against the law to ride them on the sidewalk. I have no problem with someone going 25mph on a bike if they're in the right lane. It's the dumb mfers riding them against traffic that I hate. Especially in the AP where there's no shoulders on any of the roads.

Is it? Per the place I got mine from they are legally the same class as bicycles, so anywhere bikes can go, e-bikes can also go. At least that's what he told me because I specifically asked about that.

Relax
BTW, you do realize the posted limiting is the max you can go, right? It's not mandatory you reach that speed.
While you're not losing your shite, you should calculate the difference of going 35 mph vs 45 mph, for a distance of 3 miles. I think seeing that # would make you realize how much you worry about nothing.
And you realize that the same person could legally be riding a regular bicycle and going much slower?

There were like three bicycle fatalities in NOLA already this month. A couple of them were ebikes. One involved an ebike hitting the curb at a high speed (for an ebike) at three am.
I absolutely NEVER ride on any highway with no shoulder or bike lane. That is just suicide.

It is legal for me to be an idiot. That doesn't mean I should be.
My view is that bicyclists should defer to motorized traffic. I follow the rule that 90% of drivers will not see me, and the other 10% want to kill me.
It really is not that hard to be safe on a bike. But not if you think you are in a car.

I'm not positive here, but I think bikes used to not be allowed on sidewalk. Of course it wasnt enforced, but I dont think technically it's allowed

What about electric scooters riding 20mph on major roads with no lights?

I'm not sure why you think that. If a bicycle is in a legal position, there is zero reason to defer to traffic, because he is part of traffic at that point.
Courteous? Yes. Obligated? No

They are not in NOLA and most places if you are over 15 years old.

So, I'm driving home from work, in a 35mph speed zone, E-biker on the opposite side of road, on sidewalk, passes my vehicle, no helmet, no jacket, no boots, no protective gear at all.
If enough of them get severly injured, or worse killed, maybe some legislation will come out of it...

Kids playing in the street. Not going to complain as long as they’re inside the neighborhood.
Outside the neighborhood it’s a parenting issue. Find their dad then f*** his wife.

Thanks for sharing this unbiased and expert information.
In some jurisdictions, motorized vehicles (including e-bikes) are specifically prohibited for use on public sidewalks.
But that information doesn’t sell e-bikes.
ETA: Not sure if magic carpets are “motorized vehicles”…

I agree. It’s gonna take more dead folks before laws will be passed.
ETA: I bike regularly during the summer into late fall. I have lights front and back, reflective yellow clothing, and watching for idiots who aren’t paying attention.

Guess that depends on your survival instinct.
The penalty for getting that wrong is death or injury.
I can get pretty much everywhere I need to go on a bike within minutes of what it would take in a car, and that involves stopping and slowing when I don't legall have to do so.
Why would I take on cars on a bike?
